The
corded seam
is a
typical treatment
for
slip covers, child-
ren's clothes, blouses,
and
lingerie.
To
make
a
corded seam,
make
the
welting first, then stitch
it
into
the
seam.
To
make
the
welting
1. Cut
bias strips
of
fabric
(width: three times
the
diameter
of
the
cord plus 1-1/4 inches).
2.
Sew
strips together
on the
lengthwise grain
to
obtain desired
length.
3.
Fold resulting strip
over
cord,
raw
edges even.
4.
Adjust
zipper foot
to the
left
side
of the
needle.
5-
Lower zipper foot.
6.
Stitch
close
to the
cord
(but
do not
crowd
stitching
against
cord),
pulling gently
on the
strip,
both
in
front
and in
back
of the
zipper
foot.
To
stitch
welting into
seam
1.
Place
the
corded welting between
two
fabrics.
2,
Stitch, this time crowding
the
foot
against
the
cord.
