The nodes in the internal communication network are to be wired via star topology, bus topology or via a star and
bus topology combination. The star topology is recommended since failure of a node in the star topology does
not or only slightly affect the availability of the communication network.
Observing requirements of routers and switches
The requirements for network settings and the compatibility of the routers and switches must be observed (see
manufacturer's manual).
6.5.2 Connecting Network Cables and Optical Fibers
Cable requirements:
Network cable: at least CAT5E
Optical fiber with multi-mode switch: class OM2 50/125μm
Optical fiber with single-mode network switch: class OM2 9/125μm
To connect the network cables and the optical fibers to the patch panel, carry out the following steps in the given
sequence. The exact procedure is described in the following sections.
Procedure:
1. Removing the modules from the patch panel enclosure
2. Install the optical fibers.
3. Install the network cables.
4. Mount the modules of the patch panel.
Removing the modules from the patch panel enclosure
1. Remove the patch cables.
2. Loosen 2 screws on the front of each module.
3. Pull out the modules from the front of the patch panel enclosure.
Installing the optical fibers
Additionally required mounting material (not included in the scope of delivery):
Optical fiber pigtails with subscriber connectors or
Subscriber connectors
Requirements:
The optical fibers must be inserted into the product.
CAUTION
Damage to eyes and skin due to visible and invisible laser radiation
The product contains class1 LED or laser components in accordance with IEC60825-1(2003). The laser beam
appears at the end of the optical fiber. Incorrect handling with laser beams can result in damage to eyes and skin.
Do not look into the laser beam.
Do not look at the laser beam using optical instruments.
Do not point the laser beam at persons.
