To shift up: push the selector lever in the

the next gear.
The automatic transmission automati-
cally shifts up in order to prevent dam-
age to the engine:

currently engaged gear has been
reached and

you depress the accelerator pedal.

The automatic transmission shifts down
to the next gear.
Downshifting
occurs
automatically while
coasting.
If the engine exceeds the maximum
engine speed when shifting down, the
automatic transmission protects against
engine damage by not shifting down.
