electric
start

the engine
is
equipped
with
a f uel
shut-off
solenoid.
lf
the battery
is
dead,
the engine
can
be started
with
the
recoil back-up
starler
if
the engine
speed
control
is in
the choke
position (H0T
engine
or C0LD
engine).
Engine
(Manual
Start)
IMP0RTANT:When
the
key is
turned
to
"0N",
and
the
recoil
handle
is
pulled,
the engine
willturn
over,
but
will
not start
unless
the Clutch/Brake
Pedal
is
pressed
all
the
way down
with
the Park
Brake
engaged,
and
the Blade
Lever
is
in the
"0ff"
oositton.
Start
the engine
as
follows:
1.
0pen
the
vent
(8,
Figure
2)on
the
fuelfiller
cap
(A)
by
turning
counterclockwise.
IMP0RTANT:
Failure
to open
the vent on
the fuelfiller
cap
can cause
the engine
to stall.
2. Move
the
transmission
shift
lever
to the
(N)
Neutral
oosition.
Refer
to the section
entitled
"Wheel
Drive".
IMPORTANT:
D0
N0T start
the engine
with
the
transmission
shift
lever in a
drive
position.

WARNING
It is
possible
to starl
the engine
with the
transmissi0n
shift
lever
in a drive
position.
Follow
starting
instructions
caref
u
lly.
Make certain
the Blade
Lever
(A,
Figure
4)
is tn the
"0FF"
oositton.
Press
the Clutch/Brake
Pedal
(A,
Figure
8) all
the
way
down,
move the
park
brake
latch
(B)
over,
and
release
the clutch/brake
pedal
to set the
park
brake.

Move
the
engine
speed
control

choke
position

to start
a
cold
engine.

the key

to
the
"0N"
positton.

rope,

recoil
wtth a
smooth,
even
motion
until
the engine
stafts.

Atways
guide
the starter
rope back
into
the recoil
housing.
Never
allow
rope
to snap
back.
After
the engine
stads,
move
the engine
speed
control
to
the
"FAST"
Positton.

a brief
warm-up
until

runs smooth.
