How to troubleshoot Soundstream Tarantula Amplifier that will not power up?
    • J
      Jennifer ComptonJul 31, 2025
First, ensure you have a solid ground connection and that battery power is reaching the (+) terminal. Then, inspect all fuses and replace any that are blown. Also, check if the Protection LED is illuminated; if it is, that's preventing power-up.

Why does my Soundstream Amplifier have distorted sound?
    • J
      Joseph HansenAug 4, 2025
First, make sure the input level control matches the head unit's signal level, setting it as low as possible. Also, verify that all crossover frequencies are correctly configured. Finally, check the speaker leads for any short circuits.

What to do if the Protection LED comes on in Soundstream Amplifier?
    • G
      Glen WilliamsAug 8, 2025
The Protection LED might be on due to short circuits in the speaker leads or if the speaker load is beyond the minimum. Check for short circuits on the speaker leads and verify the speaker load. You can also try removing the speaker lead and resetting the amplifier. If the protection LED persists, the amplifier may be faulty and require servicing.

Why does my Soundstream Amplifier get very hot?
    • K
      katherinegallegosAug 12, 2025
Overheating may occur if the amplifier's minimum load impedance is incorrect or if there's insufficient air circulation. Check that the load impedance is correct for your amplifier model and ensure good air circulation around the unit. In some cases, adding an external cooling fan might be necessary.

What to do if Soundstream Tarantula has no output?
    • J
      Jacob McconnellAug 17, 2025
First, check that the RCA audio cables are correctly plugged into the appropriate inputs. Next, inspect all speaker wiring to ensure everything is connected properly. Finally, check both the headunit output and the amplifier level setting to make sure they are correctly configured.

Why is there a high hiss in the speakers connected to my Soundstream Amplifier?
    • B
      bmurphyAug 21, 2025
A hissing sound could be caused by a shorted RCA cable or grounding issues. Check that the RCA cable is not shorted to power ground at the amplifier side and verify the amplifier's grounding.

Summary

Congratulations and Important Information

Hearing Safety Warning

Prolonged listening at high levels can cause hearing loss; exercise caution.

Control Functions and Connections

Speaker Terminals

Connect speakers/subwoofers here, ensuring correct polarity and avoiding chassis ground.

+12 Volt Power Connection

Connect to the positive battery terminal via a fuse/breaker within 18 inches.

Remote Turn On Terminal

Connect to the head unit's remote output to turn the amplifier on.

GND (Ground) Connection

Connect directly to bare metal chassis frame using shortest, thickest cable.

RCA Input Jacks

For source units with RCA outputs; requires minimum 200mV level. Use twisted pair cables.

Protection Indicator

Red LED indicates fault; disconnect amp and resolve before reconnecting.

Installation Precautions

General Installation Safety

Be careful of car layout, disconnect battery, turn off equipment, use correct fuse.

Mounting Amplifier Location

Plan installation, find location with sufficient air circulation.

Connecting the Amplifier

Cable and Fuse Selection

Choose appropriate cable gauge and fuse rating based on the model from the table.

Ground Cable Connection

Connect ground to bare metal chassis with nut/bolt; use same size cable as +12V.

Remote Terminal Wiring

Connect remote terminal to head unit remote output with 16-gauge wire.

Fuse Holder Placement

Place fuse holder within 18" of battery and run cable to amp.

Wiring Diagrams

Troubleshooting Guide

Amplifier Not Powering Up

Check ground, battery, fuses. Ensure Protection LED is off.

Protection LED Illuminated

Check speaker shorts/overload, remove leads, reset amp.

No Audio Output

Verify RCA cables, speaker wiring, headunit output, and amp level settings.

Distorted Sound

Set input level low, check crossover frequencies, check for speaker shorts.

Amplifier Overheating

Verify load impedance, ensure air circulation, consider cooling fan.
