Spectra PowerBox 100-IoT
Version 1.1
November 2017
7.3.1 Acquiring Administrator / Root Rights
Since the operating system of the Spectra PowerBox 100-IoT includes the “sudo” package,
you have the choice between three approaches to run commands with the root rights.
1. Any command requiring root rights can be prefixed with ”sudo”. Example: „sudo
/etc/init.d/pm2-init.sh restart“
2. You switch to the root account in the console. Enter the command sudo –i tothisend.
The queried password following these two options corresponds to the password of the
“pbgui” user -> REFERENCE TO THE FACTORY-SET PASSWORD
3. Once the password of the root user has been defined, you can switch to this account
running the su – command. The queried password corresponds to the defined root
password. This is a good option if you lost the password of the pbgui user and you want
to reset it by logging in as root.
7.3.2 Changing Passwords
As described above, the password of the Web interface admin account is created directly via
the Web interface.
The password of the pbgui user is changed in the console. To this end, the command sudo
passwd pbgui must be entered. If available, the password of the pbgui user must be entered
before entering and acknowledging the desired new password. The root password can be set
the same way running the sudo passwd root command.
1. The strength and/or complexity of the password is a decisive security factor.
Abstract passwords including capital and small letters as well as numbers and
special characters are most suitable.
2. The pbgui user may log in via SSH from a remote host. For security reasons, the
root account is not authorised for login. If it should be important in practice to work
with the root account on the Spectra PowerBox 100-IoT from a remote computer,
you must at first log in to the pbgui account via SSH and then switch to the root
account using sudo –i as described above.
3. The user passwords cannot be restored. If the root password has been set (and is
still known), you can proceed as described in item 3 of “Acquiring Administrator /
Root Rights”. If you lost the password, the Spectra PowerBox 100-IoT must be
reset to factory settings as described in “Restoring Data Backup”.
