N Depress in the outer edge (arrows) 
of the choke knob (5) and then turn 
it to Start }.
Cranking
N Place the unit on the ground: It must 
rest securely on the engine's guard 
plate and the deflector. Check that 
the cutting attachment is not 
touching the ground of any other 
obstacles.
N Make sure you have a firm footing – 
either  standing, stooping or 
kneeling.
N Hold the unit firmly on the ground 
with your left hand and press down 
– do not touch the throttle trigger or 
lockout lever.
Do not stand or kneel on the drive tube.
N Hold the starter grip with your right 
hand.
Alternative method of starting:
With the machine suspended from the 
harness and the engine at normal 
operating temperature:
N Hold the machine firmly with your 
right hand on the drive tube, handle 
support or handlebar.
N With the machine behind you, press 
it against the left side of your body.
N Hold the starter grip with your left 
hand.
N Pull the starter grip steadily.
Do not pull out the starter rope all the 
way – it might otherwise break.
N Do not let the starter grip snap back. 
Guide it slowly back into the housing 
so that the starter rope can rewind 
properly.
N Continue cranking until the engine 
runs.
As soon as the engine runs
N Make sure the engine runs 
smoothly.
If the engine stalls:
N Continue cranking until the engine 
runs.
As soon as the engine runs smoothly
N After a cold start, allow the engine to 
warm up in the Start } position.
Machine is ready for use.
If you have started the machine for the 
first time, refer to the notes on "Starting 
for first time" in section "Other Hints on 
Starting". 
N Depress throttle trigger lockout and 
pull the throttle trigger – the choke 
knob moves to the Run F position. 
The cutting attachment must not rotate 
in the Run F position with the engine at 
idling speed.
