Overview

The STRONG SRT 55 is a Digital Terrestrial Receiver designed for receiving Free-To-Air TV and Radio programmes. It connects directly to a SCART connector on a TV, VCR, DVD player, projector, or Hi-Fi system, offering a versatile solution for digital terrestrial broadcasting. The device is 180° rotatable, allowing for flexible placement and connection.

Function Description

The primary function of the SRT 55 is to receive and decode digital terrestrial broadcasts. It supports both TV and Radio services, providing access to a wide range of channels. The receiver includes an SD Card reader, which enables several multimedia functions such as watching photo albums (JPEG), recording and playing video (MPEG-1 and MPEG-2), and playing music files (MP3 and WMA).

A key feature is its "Time Shift" capability, which allows users to pause live TV and resume playback later. This function also supports rewind, fast forward, slow motion, and a GOTO function for navigating through recorded content. The device offers various recording options, including instant recording, event recording (daily, weekly, monthly), and one-touch recording. It can record up to 1 hour of content, with an approximate file size of 2 GB.

The SRT 55 provides a user-friendly menu for quick and easy installation and operation. It boasts excellent audio and video quality, ensuring an enjoyable viewing experience. With a memory capacity of 1,000 channels, it can store a substantial number of programmes. Channel zapping is fast, and channels can be sorted by alphabet or by free/encrypted status.

The Electronic Program Guide (EPG) offers on-screen programme information for present and following events, extending up to 7 days. This allows users to plan their viewing and recording schedules effectively. The receiver also includes 8 wake-up timers with four modes (once, daily, weekly, monthly) and a sleep timer (10, 30, 60, 90, 120 min). Events can be booked directly from the EPG.

For accessibility, the SRT 55 supports full multi-lingual DVB subtitling and audio track support. It also provides Teletext support via both the receiver and the TV set. Eight favourite lists are available for both TV and Radio programmes, allowing users to organise their preferred channels. A parental lock function is included for menu and rating control, ensuring content suitability. The on-screen menu (OSD) supports multiple languages, including English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, and Czech.

Channel management options are extensive, allowing users to lock, edit, move, sort, skip, delete, and search for channels. The device offers both automatic and manual channel scan options for flexible setup.

Usage Features

The SRT 55 is operated via an Infrared Sensor Eye and a remote control unit. The remote control provides comprehensive control over all receiver functions, including channel selection, volume adjustment, menu navigation, and multimedia playback. The IR sensor should be aimed directly at the unit for optimal response.

Installation is guided by an "Easy Install" menu that appears upon first use, prompting settings for Region, OSD Language, and Antenna Power. The device supports active antennas by providing a 5 V output. Logical Channel Numbering (LCN) can be activated to store channels in the operator-defined order.

The main menu is accessed via the MENU button and includes submenus for Channel, Installation, Setup, Tools, and Media+. The Channel menu allows users to manage TV and Radio channel lists, including favouring, locking, skipping, deleting, renaming, finding, and sorting channels. The Installation menu facilitates auto and manual channel scanning and antenna settings.

The Setup menu offers options for OSD Language, TV System (display mode, aspect ratio, video output), Region and Time settings, Timer Setting (programme timers and sleep timer), OSD Setting (subtitle display, OSD transparency, OSD timeout), and Parental Lock. The Parental Lock allows users to protect menus and channels with a password.

The Tools menu provides access to Receiver Information, Games (Tetris, Snake, Othello), and the Load Factory Default option. The Media+ menu is central to multimedia functions, offering Media Player for playing MPEG-2, Audio, and Photo files, Record Manager for playback of recorded files, Removable Disk Information, Record Settings, Safely Remove Storage Device, and Disk Format.

For recording, an SD Card must be connected. The receiver will indicate when the device is connected and ready for Time Shift or Record functions. During playback, users can pause, fast forward, rewind, and perform slow motion using dedicated buttons on the remote control.

Maintenance Features

The SRT 55 is designed for ease of maintenance. The Load Factory Default option allows users to reset the receiver to its original factory settings, clearing all existing channels and user configurations. This can be useful for troubleshooting or preparing the device for a new user.

Software upgrades can be performed via the "Software Upgrade" menu, typically from a connected storage device. It is crucial not to disconnect the receiver or switch off power during a software update, as this can damage the device and void the warranty. The receiver may also support over-the-air updates, depending on local broadcast conditions.

For cleaning, the device should always be unplugged from the wall outlet. Only a damp cloth should be used; liquid or aerosol cleaners, or organic solvents, should be avoided. The device should be kept away from water and moisture, and its ventilation slots should not be blocked to prevent overheating.

In case of abnormal operation, a troubleshooting guide is provided to help identify and resolve common issues, such as the IR sensor light not being lit, no signal, or no picture/sound. Users are advised to check connections, antenna status, and power supply. If issues persist, contacting the dealer or service hotline is recommended, and users are cautioned against opening the receiver cover to avoid electric shock and voiding the warranty.

The packaging is designed to protect the receiver and accessories from electric shocks and moisture during storage and transport. Users are advised to keep the original packaging for potential future transport or warranty returns.
