This appliance may be installed in an aftermarket permanently located, manufactured home (USA only) or mobile
home, where not prohibited by local codes. This appliance is only for use with the type of gas indicated on the
rating plate. This appliance is not convertible for use with other gases, unless a certified kit is used.

• Immediately call your gas supplier from a neigh-
bor’s phone. Follow the gas supplier’s instructions.
• If you cannot reach your gas supplier, call the fire
department.

      If the spark igniter on your Superior Indoor Fireplace isn't lighting the pilot, there could be several reasons. First, check for a spark at the electrode and pilot. If there's no spark, and the electrode wire is properly connected, the igniter may be defective and needs replacement. If there is a spark, try lighting the pilot with a match. If it lights, the gas mixture might be off, requiring a longer purge period. If it still doesn't light, check the gap at the electrode and pilot; it should be about 1/8 inch for a strong spark. If the gap is correct, the pilot might need replacing. Also, make sure the gas supply pressure is within the limits specified on the rating plate. Finally, the pilot orifice could be plugged, so try cleaning or replacing it.

Then, inspect the control compartment for any loose wiring to the valve or ignition module; if you find any loose wires, call a service technician. Also, there might be air in the gas line, which would require purging (it is recommended to call a service technician). Finally, make sure the unit is receiving power by replacing the unit's battery backup.

      If the pilot light won't stay lit on your Superior Indoor Fireplace, even after following the lighting instructions, the issue might be a defective pilot generator (thermocouple). Check that the pilot flame is properly hitting the thermocouple. Clean and/or adjust the pilot to ensure maximum flame impingement on the thermocouple. Also, make sure the connection between the valve and thermocouple is tight and secure.

Then, check the gas supply and gas shutoff valves to ensure gas is reaching the fireplace. Finally, check or replace the backup batteries behind the wall plate to ensure the unit is receiving power.

      If you notice soot on the logs and glass of your Superior Indoor Fireplace, it could be due to several reasons. First, excessive flame impingement on the logs may be the cause; ensure the logs are properly positioned as detailed on Page 54. A white film may develop on the glass during the first few fires as part of the burn-in process, in that case, clean the glass after each use (AFTER THE GLASS HAS COMPLETELY COOLED). Also, check the vent restrictor setting and adjust the air shutter adjustment lever according to the instructions in this manual. Finally, make sure the air shutter is properly opened by pushing in the rod.

You can bypass the wall switch by using a jumper wire across its terminals. If the burner then comes on, the wall switch is likely defective and needs to be replaced. If that's not the issue, try bypassing the wall switch wires at the valve with a jumper wire.
