To adjust the drive chain, follow the
procedure below:
1. Loosen the 4 nuts 1.
2. Insert a proper rod into the rear
sprocket hole 2 and adjuster
hole. Turn the adjuster 3 by rotat-
ing the rear wheels. The drive
chain slack should be 45 – 55 mm
(1.8 – 2.2 in) at the mid point
between the chain buffer and rear
sprocket.
3. Retighten the nuts 1 securely.
NOTE: Tighten the nuts twice to
obtain specified tightening torque.
First tighten the four nuts with the
specified tightening torque. Then
tighten the four nuts with the specified
tightening torque again in the same
order of the first.
4. Recheck the chain slack after
tightening and readjust if neces-
sary.
Rear axle housing nuts 1:
28 N·m (2.8 kgf-m, 20.0 lb-ft)
DRIVE CHAIN BUFFER
INSPECTION
Inspect the drive chain for wear. If the
wear indicator in the drive chain buffer
appears, replace the drive chain with
a new one.
WARNING
Improper drive chain adjustment
and bolts and nuts tightening can
be hazardous.
Failure to adjust the drive chain
and failure to torque bolts and
nuts properly could lead to an
accident.
• Adjust the drive chain as
described in this section.
• Torque bolts and nuts to the
proper specifications. If you are
not sure of the proper proce-
dure, have your authorized
SUZUKI dealer or a qualified
mechanic do this.
