Control
of
the
various
functions
in
the
FG
5010
is
through
a
set
of
shift
registers
of
varying
word
lengths
.
One
register
exists
for
each
board
;
i.e.
,
Loop
1
,
Loop
2
,
Sine
Shaper
,
and
Output
Amplifier
.
Thus
,
if
a
function
requires
alteration
on
the
Sine
Shaper
and
none
is
required
on
the
other
circuits
,
CPU
time
is
saved
.
Operation
of
the
other
circuitry
of
the
FG
5010
is
as
fol
lows
.
The
trigger
signal
is
applied
through
the
TRIG
/
GATE
INPUT
front
-
panel
connector
to
the
Trig
-
Gate
Slope
-
Level
Selection
circuits
,
which
determine
the
slope
and
level
of
the
trigger
that
is
to
control
the
start
of
the
loop
.
The
signal
is
then
applied
to
the
Mode
Logic
circuits
,
which
permit
CPU
control
of
the
slope
of
the
trigger
,
and
the
start
and
stopping
point
of
the
High
-
frequency
Loop
signals
for
gate
,
triggered
,
and
burst
operations
.
The
High
-
Frequency
Loop
,
also
called
Loop
1
and
the
Main
Loop
,
forms
the
core
of
the
function
generator
.
It
pro
duces
the
fundamental
high
-
frequency
triangle
and
square
wave
signals
that
are
used
by
the
Sine
Shaper
and
Loop
2
circuits
for
producing
the
other
signals
.
From
the
Loop
1
circuits
,
the
HFSQ
signal
is
applied
to
the
Lo
Freq
Gen
,
which
forms
the
low
-
frequency
triangle
and
square
wave
signals
.
The
HFSQ
signal
is
also
applied
to
the
Freq
Control
circuit
,
which
compares
the
HFSQ
signal
with
the
4
MHz
reference
frequency
from
the
CPU
,
and
notifies
the
CPU
of
any
error
so
correction
can
be
made
as
required
.
The
LF
TRI
and
LFSQ
signals
are
applied
to
the
Hi
Freq
Loop
cir
cuit
,
which
selects
whichever
of
the
triangle
or
square
waves
,
high
-
frequency
or
low
-
frequency
,
that
is
to
be
routed
to
the
Function
Switching
circuit
as
the
SEL
TRI
signal
,
or
through
the
Sq
Buffer
as
the
SEL
SQ
signal
,
also
to
be
applied
to
the
Function
Switching
circuit
.
The
Hi
Freq
Loop
circuit
also
receives
the
voltage
from
the
Clamp
circuit
that
holds
the
generator
from
running
during
triggered
,
gated
,
or
burst
modes
of
operation
,
and
the
FM
-
VCF
voltage
from
the
front
panel
to
control
the
loop
frequency
by
external
means
.
Theory
of
Operation
-
FG
5010
A
voltage
is
also
applied
to
the
Hi
Freq
Loop
from
the
Lock
Cktry
circuit
that
modifies
the
operating
frequency
of
the
loop
to
lock
the
loop
on
to
an
incoming
trigger
.
Both
the
Clamp
and
the
Lock
are
controlled
by
the
Phase
Voltage
Gen
,
which
produces
a
CPU
-
controlled
voltage
that
deter
mines
the
point
on
the
triangle
at
which
the
loop
begins
,
and
the
phase
difference
between
the
loop
signal
and
the
ap
plied
trigger
during
phase
-
lock
operations
.
The
Lo
Freq
Gen
receives
the
HFSQ
signal
from
the
Hi
Freq
Loop
,
divides
it
by
100,000
,
and
applies
it
back
to
the
Hi
Freq
Loop
as
a
precise
low
-
frequency
triangle
.
The
circuit
also
produces
the
LFSQ
signal
,
which
is
the
HFSQ
signal
that
is
divided
by
100,000
;
this
signal
is
returned
to
the
Hi
Freq
Loop
for
application
to
the
Sq
Buffer
.
The
Sine
Shaper
receives
a
triangle
-
wave
signal
from
the
Function
Switching
circuit
,
shapes
the
signal
into
a
sine
wave
,
and
returns
it
to
the
same
circuit
.
The
Sq
Buffer
out
put
signal
is
applied
to
the
Function
Switching
circuit
,
and
to
the
Trigger
Interfaces
Circuit
.
This
circuit
produces
the
trig
ger
that
is
furnished
to
the
TRIG
OUTPUT
connector
on
the
FG
5010
front
panel
.
The
circuit
also
furnishes
the
square
wave
signal
that
is
applied
to
the
N
Burst
Counter
,
which
under
CPU
control
determines
the
number
of
cycles
of
sig
nal
the
FG
5010
will
generate
in
a
burst
.
The
sine
,
square
,
or
triangle
-
wave
output
from
the
Func
tion
Switching
circuit
is
applied
to
the
Level
Control
&
AM
circuits
,
which
set
the
output
amplitude
of
the
signal
,
and
through
the
AM
INPUT
connector
,
introduces
amplitude
modulation
to
the
output
signal
.
The
signal
,
modulated
or
not
,
is
applied
to
the
Amplifier
,
which
amplifies
the
signal
for
application
to
the
Atten
.
This
circuit
applies
attenuation
to
the
signal
in
10
dB
steps
,
up
to
50
dB
.
The
attenuated
out
put
is
combined
with
the
offset
voltage
from
the
Offset
Gen
,
and
applied
to
the
OUTPUT
connector
.
