Anindicationofthiswouldbeanoticeablespinner"wobble"whiletheengine
isrunning.Thisconditionisnormallycausedbyinadequateshimmingofthe
spinnerbulkheadoracrackedordeformedspinner.Ifaspinnerisfoundto
be"wobbling",itshouldberemovedandreinstalledwiththeproperamount
ofshimsasdescribedin,thePropellerRemovalandInstallationsection.Any
spinnerfoundcrackedmustbereplaced.

Checkamountofbladetwistofeachpropellerbladewhenrotatedwithinits
socketasshowninFigure601.Lookforvariationsintheamountofmovement
ofeachbladeinrelationtotheotherblade(s).

Ifexcessivebladetwistisfoundinoneormorebladesinrelationtotheothers,
thepropellercouldhaveaninternallinkageproblem.Itshouldberemoved
andsenttoanFAAapprovedPart145PropellerRepairStationorinternational
equivalentforevaluation.
NOTE:Theamountoftotalbladetwistineachbladeis,initself,usuallyof
noimportance.Itisadifferenceintheamountofbladetwistfrom
bladetobladethatshouldbeconsidered.

(a)ConsulttheOEMorenginemountmanufacturermanualforreplacementcriteria.
9.BladeShake
A.Symptom:
NOTE:"BladeShake"islistedinthe"PropellerTroubleshooting"sectionofthismanualfor
informationalpurposesonlyasithasbeenmisinterpretedinthepastasapossible
problembysomeoperators.Despiteit'sappearanceinthissection,itshouldneverbe
consideredacauseforconcernorpropellerreplacement.RefertoFigure601foran
illustrationofbladeshake.
(1)Bladeshakeisthetendencyforthebladestowobbleslightlywhenthetipisphysicallymoved
byhandfromtheleadingedgetothetrailingedge.
(a)Iftherearenosignsorindicationsofpropellerdamage,movementatthebladetipis
considerednormal.
B.Cause:
(1)Thistendencyisthenaturalresultofatolerancebuildup.Averysmallmovementatthehubis
magniedmanytimesatthebladetip.ItisNOTnormallythesourceofvibrationoranyother
problemsduringpropelleroperation.Whilethepropellerisrotating,centrifugalforceonthe
bladesseatsthemrigidlyandpositivelyagainsttheretentionbearingsinthehub.
NOTE:Aslightvibrationmightbeencounteredduringenginestartupandshutdownuntilthe
centrifugalforceissufcienttoseatthebladesagainsttheretentionbearingsinthehub.
NOTE:Propellerbladeshakeor"rock"withaMcCauleyC3400seriespropelleratrestis
considerednormal.Thispropellerutilizesanantibladeshakespringthatisuniqueto
thismodelseriesofpropeller.Theanti-bladeshakeshimappliesapreloadtotheblade
retentionsystembutwillallowsome"rocking"movementofthepropellerbladeswhenthe
propellerisnotoperating.Duringnormaloperationcentrifugalforceexertsasignicant
outwardforceonthebladeretentionsystemlockingthebladeinpositionandreducing
rockingmotions.However,whenthepropellerisatrest,itispossibletorocktheblades
withinthehubsocketsbyapplyinghandpressuretotheblades.Thisisnotacausefor
concern.
