Maskingtape
NOTE:MPKmaybeusedinsteadofT oluoltotackifycement.Toluolprovidesapproximately40
secondsofworkingtime.
D.BladePreparation
(1)RefertoTable201"Y"dimensionforproperlocationofthedeiceboot.
(2)Outlineareatobemaskedusingaredpencil.Areamaybemarkedoffusingatemplateorby
handttingadeiceboottotheblade.Deicebootswhichuseintegraltypeleadstrapmustbe
markedforleadstrapalignment.
(3)Aligndeicebootwithleadstrapmarksandcentertheoutboardendofthedeicebootonthelead
edgeoftheblade.Oncethedeicebootispositioned,markanarea0.5inchoutsideoftheboot
perimeter.Usingmaskingtape,maskaroundtheoutline.
(4)Onbladespaintedwithpolyurethanepaint,lightlysandwithinthemaskedoffareausing400
gritsandpaper.CleanentiremaskedareathoroughlywithMPKoracetone.Fornalcleaning,
quicklywipeoffsolventWithaclean,dry,lint-freeclothtoavoidleavingalm.
(5)Applyasecondlayerofmaskingtapetocoveranadditional0.125inch(3.18mm)insideofthe
previouslymaskedarea.
E.CementApplication
CAUTION:Cleanlinessofthepropellerbladeandrubberpartscannotbe
overemphasized.Onlyverycleansurfaceswillassuremaximum
adhesion.
(1)MoistenacleanclothwithMPKoracetone.Cleantheunglazed(back)surfaceofthedeiceboot
andsurfacesoftherestrainerstrap.Changetheclothfrequentlytoavoidcontaminationofthe
cleanarea.
(2)Thoroughlymixthecement.
NOTE:Topreventcurlingofthedeicebootedges,applymaskingtapetotheedgesonthe
smoothsidebeforeapplyingcementtothefabricimpressionedside.Removetape
fromthedeicebootbeforestartinginstallation.
(3)Forbestresults,applycementandmakedeicebootinstallationatroomtemperature65to75°F
(18to24°C)Applyone,even,brushcoatofcementtotheclean,maskedsurfaceofthepropeller
bladeandthefabricimpressionedsideofthedeiceboot.Also,wheninstallinganintegrallead
straptypedeiceboot,applycementtoproperlengthofdeicebootleadstrapsothatstrapwill
becementedtotheblade.Allowcementtoairdryforaminimumofonehourat40°F(4°C),or
above,whentherelativehumidityislessthan75%.Ifthehumidityis75%to90%,additional
dryingtimewillberequiredtocurecement.Donotapplycementifrelativehumidityishigher
than90%.Aftercementisdry(nottacky),applyasecond,even,brushcoatofcementtothe
deiceboot.
(4)Applyanevenbrushcoatofcementontheclean,maskedoffsurfaceofthepropellerblade
immediatelyafterthesecondcoatofcementhasbeenappliedtothedeiceboot.Timingis
importantbecausethecementonbothsurfacesmustreachthetackystageatthesametime.
F.InstallingDeiceBoot
(1)Whencementcoatsaretackydryonbothbladesurfaceanddeicebootsurface,locatedeice
bootleadswithleadstrapwithalignmentmarkspreviouslymade.Tackthedeicebootcenter
linetotheleadingedgeoftheblade,startingattheinboardendworkingtowardthetip.Ifcement
dries,usethetackifyingsolventasnecessary.Ifthedeicebootisallowedtogetoffcourse,pull
upwithaquickmotionandreapplyboot.Ifcementisremovedfromeithersurface,completely
removethebootandreapplycement.Usetackifyingsolventasnecessarytoreinstalltheboot.
Whencorrectlypositioned,pressrmlywithrubberorwoodenhandrolleralongfulllengthof
propellerbladeleadingedgetoformatightbond.
