NOTE:Readthefollowinginstructionscarefullybeforeyoubegintheepoxyapplication.
NOTE:Donotattempttomixmoreepoxythanisrequiredforoneblade.
(1)Mixapproximately1/3tube(1/3ounce(9.4g))ofepoxyA-1664-29epoxyor1/5(5.7g)ounceof
A-1664-30epoxy.
(2)Useanacidbrushtoquicklyapplyathincoatoftheepoxyfromtheoutboardmaskingtape,
inboardthroughtheinboardadhesivelineremainingfromthecabletieinstallation.
NOTE:TheA-1664-29epoxywillbegintosetveryquickly(approximately3minutesfrom
mixing),andthereforemustbeappliedasquicklyaspossible.
NOTE:TheA-1664-30epoxyhasanapproximate30-minutecuretime.
(a)Theepoxydoesnotneedtoextendallthewaytothenelinetapeatthebladeshank.
(b)Theepoxyisappliedonlyfrominboardofthenyloncabletietojustoutboardofthe
restrainerstrap.Makesuretheentirerestrainerstrapandnyloncabletieiscoveredin
epoxy.
(3)Donot"overbrush"theepoxy.Brushingthepartiallycuredepoxywillproducebrushmarks.
(4)Immediatelyaftertheepoxyisapplied,removetheoutboardmaskingtape.Donotremovethe
tapeappliedforapplicationoftheedgesealantenamel.
(5)Allowtheepoxytocure.
(a)Allow10minutesforA-1664-29epoxy.
(b)Allow60minutesforA-1664-30epoxy.
(6)Properlydisposeoftheacidbrushimmediately.Donottrytoreusetheacidbrushonanother
blade.
K.SealantApplication
(1)Applymaskingtapeapproximately0.125to0.25inch(3.18to6mm)outboardoftheoutboard
edgeoftheepoxy.
(2)Trimallmaskingtapeasnecessarytoallowacontinuousbandaroundthebootandtheoutboard
edgeoftherestrainerstrap.
(3)Usea3/4inchbrushtoapplytheenamelsealantaroundtheedgesoftheboot,theentire
restrainerstrap,thenyloncabletie,andtothenelinetapeatthebladeshank.
(4)ApplicationofSealer
(a)MixingofMaterials.MixtwopartsofSunbrite78-U-1003or78A-1003brushableblack
enamelwithonepartenamelcatalystU-1001-C.
CAUTION:Itisimperativethatthemaskingsteps,asdescribedinthe
previousstepsbefollowed.Thiswillmakesurethatthesealer
willbeappliedtoboththeadhesiveand0.125inchofthe
propellerblade.Iftheadhesionlineandthesealerlinestartat
thesamepointwaterwillbeallowedtoseepunderneaththe
adhesionline,resultinginanineffectiveseal.
(b)ApplyingSealer.Applyone,even,brushcoatofsealertotheareaaroundthebootcovering
the0.125inch(3.18mm)ofpropellerbladeandadhesiveasdescribedabovealongwith
amaskedoffareaof0.125inchofthedeicebootitself.Removemaskingtapeassealeris
brushedon,otherwise,sealerwillpullupalongwiththetape.Allowsealertodry.(Refer
toFigure202)
(5)Immediatelyremoveallmaskingtapeincludingthenelinetape.
(6)Makesurethereisatleast0.125inch(3.18mm)ofbaremetalexposedontheinboardendofthe
propellerbladeleadingedgeguard.Failuretoleavetheinboardendoftheleadingedgeguard
baremetalwilldecreasetheabilityofthepropellerbladetodissipateelectricityintheeventof
alightningstrikeonthepropellerblade.
