Why does THOMSON TS 870 Switch transfer to generator source without a power failure?
    • G
      gabriel21Aug 28, 2025
If the Thomson Switch transfers to the generator source even without a utility power failure, it could be due to a few reasons: * A test mode might be activated, so check the TSC 80/TSC 80E status LED. * The utility supply voltage might be slightly below the voltage sensing setpoints. In this case, verify that the TSC 80 has the correct voltage configuration jumper setting for the system voltage, or that the TSC 80E has the correct voltage setting via software programming. * The utility power switching device may have tripped due to an overcurrent condition. Determine the cause of the alarm and rectify it before resetting the TSC 80/TSC 80E.

What to do if Thomson Switch will not transfer to generator source upon failure of utility source?
    • C
      Christina MillerSep 1, 2025
If the Thomson Switch fails to transfer to the generator source when the utility source fails, it could be due to the generator set not producing enough voltage/frequency, or the output circuit breaker being open. Also, check that the TSC 80 has the correct voltage configuration jumper setting for the correct system voltage, or that the TSC 80E has the correct voltage setting via software programming.

Why is there no time delay on my THOMSON TS 870?
    • T
      tbrownSep 5, 2025
If you're experiencing no time delay when there should be one with your Thomson Switch, verify the time delay setting of the TSC 80/TSC 80E controller. Another potential cause is that the power switching device's over current protection unit has opened due to a fault on the system. To resolve this, correct the fault and manually reset the power switching device in the transfer switch by moving it off and then on again with the manual operating handle.

What to do if THOMSON TS 870 Switch motor overheats after transfer?
    • A
      amber28Sep 8, 2025
If the motor overheats and the internal thermal protector opens after a transfer with the Thomson Switch, this could be due to limit switch failure or improper adjustment, or binding or jamming of the transfer mechanism.

Why does my THOMSON TS 870 transfer to generator source without utility power failure?
    • T
      thomassandraNov 12, 2025
If the THOMSON Switch transfers to the generator source without a power failure in the utility source, it might be due to a few reasons. A Load Test mode may have been activated either locally or remotely, so check the TSC 900 GHC Home Page status indicators. Alternatively, an Exercise Test mode could have been activated by the TSC 900 scheduler, which you can check on the TSC 900 GHC Scheduler page. Also, the utility supply might not be operating at the correct voltage or frequency levels; verify the nominal levels and compare them to the TSC 900 settings. It's also possible that the TSC 900 has incorrect utility voltage or frequency settings, requiring you to reprogram it. Furthermore, the utility power switching device might have tripped open due to an overcurrent condition, activating ...

What to do if THOMSON TS 870 will not re-transfer to utility source upon restoration?
    • L
      lisa94Nov 16, 2025
If your THOMSON Switch won't re-transfer to the utility source after power is restored, there are several potential causes. First, the Utility Return Time delay period in TSC 900 might not have expired yet; verify the TSC 900 time delay setting. It's also possible that a Load Test or Exercise Test mode has been activated; check the TSC 900 GHC Home Page status indicators and Scheduler page, respectively. The utility supply might not be operating at the correct voltage or frequency levels; verify the nominal levels and compare them to the TSC 900 settings for voltage, phase balance, and frequency. The TSC 900 might also have incorrect utility voltage or frequency settings, requiring reprogramming. Additionally, mismatched Utility and Generator Phase Rotation, unplugged TSC 900 connection pl...

What to do if THOMSON TS 870 will not transfer to generator after utility source failure?
    • L
      Luis BridgesNov 19, 2025
If the THOMSON Switch will not transfer to the generator source upon failure of the utility source, there are several possible reasons. The warm-up time delay function might not have timed out yet; verify the TSC 900 timer setting. Ensure that the generator set output circuit breaker, which feeds the ATS, is closed. Also, the generator supply might not be operating at the correct voltage or frequency levels; verify the nominal levels and compare them to the TSC 900 settings. The TSC 900 might have incorrect generator voltage or frequency settings for the ATS, requiring you to reprogram it. Additionally, the Generator Phase Rotation may not match the Utility supply; check the phase rotation on the TSC 900 GHC Utility & Generator Voltage Pages. Finally, check that all TSC 900 connection plug...

How to fix a THOMSON TS 870 Switch when generator does not start or stop correctly?
    • S
      Shawn WilliamsNov 23, 2025
If the generator on your THOMSON Switch does not start or stop when it should, here are a few things to check: * Verify the remote engine control panel is set to automatic mode. * Ensure the engine start contact is wired correctly from the ATS to the engine control panel. * For single engine applications, confirm that you are using Engine Start Signal #2 contact on the TSC 900 lower terminal block (J10b). * Make sure the TSC 900 Engine start contact terminal block (j10b) is fully inserted into the controller and connected to the correct position. * Check if the TSC 900 SCU Engine Start relay/contact is defective by verifying the Engine start signal LED diagnostic light is illuminated on the SCU when the engine is signaled to start. If the LED is on, verify the contacts are closi...
