1.Engagetheparkingbrake.
2.Measurethelengthofthespring(Figure73).
Note:Themeasurementshouldbe64mm
(2-1/2inches)betweenthewashers.
3.Ifadjustmentisnecessary,disengagethe
parkingbrake,loosenthejamnutbelowthe
springandadjustthenutdirectlybelowthe
spring(Figure73).
4.Turnthenutuntilthecorrectmeasurementis
obtained.
Note:Turnthenutclockwisetoshortenspring
lengthandturncounter-clockwisetolengthen
thespring.
5.Tightenthe2nutstogether.
6.Engagetheparkingbrakeandcheckthe
measurementofthespringagain.
7.Ifanadjustmentisnecessary,repeatthe
proceduresabove.
8.Repeatontheoppositesideofmachine.

Checkthebeltsforsquealingwhenthebeltisrotating,
bladesslippingwhencuttinggrass,frayedbeltedges,
burnmarksandcracksaresignsofawornmower
belt.Replacethemowerbeltifanyoftheseconditions
areevident.
ReplacingtheMowerBelt
Squealingwhenthebeltisrotating,bladesslipping
whencuttinggrass,frayedbeltedges,burnmarks
andcracksaresignsofawornmowerbelt.Replace
themowerbeltifanyoftheseconditionsareevident.
1.Disengagetheblade-controlswitch(PTO),move
themotion-controlleverstotheNEUTRAL-LOCK
position,andengagetheparkingbrake.
2.Shutofftheengine,removethekey,andwait
forallmovingpartstostopbeforeleavingthe
operatingposition.
3.Removethebeltcovers(Figure74).
