AdjustingtheBrakes
Ifthegapbetweenthebrakebarandtireisnotcorrect,adjust
thebrake.
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurfaceanddisengagethe
PTO,andsettheparkingbrake.
2.Shutofftheengine,removethekey,andwaitforall
movingpartstostopbeforeleavingtheoperating
position.
3.Releasetheparkingbrake;refertoReleasingthe
ParkingBrake(page16).
4.Toadjustthebrake,removetheclevispinandhairpin
cotterfromthelower-brakeleverandyoke(Figure63).
5.Adjusttheyoke(Figure62).
Note:Thedistancebetweenthebrakebarandthetire
needsbebetween3and6mm(1/8and1/4inches).
Note:Totightenthebrake,rotatetheyokeup.To
loosenthebrake,rotatetheyokedown.
6.Checkthebrakeoperationagain;refertoCheckingthe
ParkingBrake(page45).
7.Securetheyoketothelower-brakeleverwiththeclevis
pinandhairpincotter(Figure63).

ServiceInterval:Every100hours—Checkthepump-drive
belt.
Every100hours—Checkthemower-deckbelt(s).
Checkbeltsforcracks,frayededges,burnmarks,wear,signs
ofoverheatingoranyotherdamage.
Thesignsofawornmowerbeltaresquealingwhilethebelt
isrotating,bladesslippingwhileyouarecuttinggrass,frayed
beltedges,burnmarks,andcracks.Replacethemowerbeltif
youdetectanyofthesesigns.
ReplacingtheMower-Deck
Belt
ForModelswitha91cmDeck
Important:Thefastenersonthecoversofthismachine
aredesignedtoremainonthecoverafterremoval.
Loosenallofthefastenersoneachcoverafewturns
sothatthecoverisloosebutstillattached,thengo
backandloosenthemuntilthecovercomesfree.This
preventsyoufromaccidentallystrippingtheboltsfree
oftheretainers.
1.DisengagethePTOandsettheparkingbrake.
2.Shutofftheengine,removethekey,andwaitforall
movingpartstostopbeforeleavingtheoperating
position.
3.Loosentheboltsandremovetherightbeltcoverwith
theboltattachedtoit.
4.Removethespringfromtheanchorpostonthe
idler-pulleyarm(Figure64).
5.Removethewornmowerbelt(Figure64).
6.Installthenewmowerbeltaroundtheclutchpulley,the
deckpulleys,andtheidlerpulley(Figure64).
7.Installthespringontotheanchorpostonthe
idler-pulleyarm(Figure64).
8.Installthebeltcoverontothemowerdeckandsecure
thebolt.
