Alwaystrytohaveonesideofthemowerfreefromuncut
grass,whichallowsairtobedrawnintothemower.
CuttingaLawnfortheFirstTime
Cutgrassslightlylongerthannormaltoensurethecutting
heightofthemowerdoesnotscalpanyunevenground.
However,thecuttingheightusedinthepastisgenerallythe
bestonetouse.Whencuttinggrasslongerthan6inchestall,
youmaywanttocutthelawntwicetoensureanacceptable
qualityofcut.
CutaThirdoftheGrassBlade
Itisbesttocutonlyabout1/3ofthegrassblade.Cutting
morethanthatisnotrecommendedunlessgrassissparse,or
itislatefallwhengrassgrowsmoreslowly.
MowinginAlternateDirections

whichisagoodpractice,mowmoreofteninearlyspring.

frequently.Ifyoucannotmowforanextendedperiod,rst

AvoidCuttingtheGrassTooLow
Ifthecuttingwidthofthemoweriswiderthanthemower
youpreviouslyused,raisethecuttingheighttoensurethat
uneventurfisnotcuttooshort.
MowingLongerGrass
Ifthegrassiseverallowedtogrowslightlylongerthan
normal,orifitcontainsahighdegreeofmoisture,raisethe
cuttingheighthigherthanusualandcutthegrassatthis
setting.Thencutthegrassagainusingthelower,normal
setting.
StoppingtheMachine
Ifthemachine'sforwardmotionmustbestoppedwhile
mowing,aclumpofgrassclippingsmaydropontoyourlawn.
Toavoidthis,moveontoapreviouslycutareawiththeblades
engaged.
KeepingtheUndersideoftheMower
Clean
Cleanclippingsanddirtfromtheundersideofthemower
aftereachuse.Ifgrassanddirtbuildupinsidethemower,
cuttingqualitywilleventuallybecomeunsatisfactory.
MaintainingtheBlade
Maintainasharpbladethroughoutthecuttingseasonbecause
asharpbladecutscleanlywithouttearingorshreddingthe
grassblades.Tearingandshreddingturnsgrassbrownat
theedges,whichslowsgrowthandincreasesthechanceof
disease.Checkthecutterbladesdailyforsharpness,andfor
anywearordamage.Filedownanynicksandsharpenthe
bladesasnecessary.Ifabladeisdamagedorworn,replaceit
immediatelywithagenuineTOROreplacementblade.
