dustyorsandyconditions).
Every300hours—Checktheinnerairlter.
Every600hours—Replacetheinnerairlter.
Note:Checktheltersmorefrequentlyiftheoperating
conditionsareextremelydustyorsandy.
RemovingtheFilters
1.Disengagetheblade-controlswitch(PTO),movethe
motion-controlleverstotheNEUTRAL-LOCKposition,
andsettheparkingbrake.
2.Shutofftheengine,removethekey,andwaitforall
movingpartstostopbeforeleavingtheoperating
position.
3.Releasethelatchesontheaircleanerandpullthe
air-inletcoverofftheair-cleanerbody(Figure49).
4.Cleantheair-inletscreenandcover.
5.Installtheair-inletcoverandsecureitwiththelatches
(Figure49).

6.Releasethelatchesontheaircleanerandpullthe
air-cleanercoverofftheair-cleanerbody(Figure49).

8.Gentlyslidetheprimarylteroutoftheair-cleaner
body(Figure49).
Note:Avoidknockingthelterintothesideofthe
body.
9.Removetheinnerlteronlyifyouintendtoreplaceit.
Important:Neverattempttocleantheinnerlter.
Ifthesafetylterisdirty,thentheprimarylteris
damaged;replacebothlters.
10.Inspecttheprimarylterfordamagebylookinginto
thelterwhileshiningabrightlightontheoutsideof
thelter.
Note:Anyholesinthelterappearasbrightspots.
Ifthelterisdamaged,discardit.
ServicingthePrimaryFilter
•Iftheprimarylterisdirty,bent,ordamaged,replaceit.
•Donotcleantheprimarylter.
ServicingtheSafetyFilter
Replacethesafetylter,nevercleanit.
Important:Neverattempttocleanthesafetylter.
Ifthesafetylterisdirty,thentheprimarylteris
damaged.Replacebothlters.
InstallingtheFilters
Important:Topreventenginedamage,alwaysoperate
theenginewithbothairltersandthecoverinstalled.
1.Ifyouareinstallingnewlters,checkeachlterfor
shippingdamage.
Note:Donotuseadamagedlter.
2.Ifyouarereplacingtheinnerlter,carefullyslideitinto
thelterbody(Figure49).
3.Carefullyslidetheprimarylterovertheinnerlter
(Figure49).
Note:Ensurethattheprimarylterisfullyseatedby
pushingonitsouterrimwhileinstallingit.
Important:Donotpressonthesoftinsidearea
ofthelter.
4.Installtheair-cleanercoverandsecurethelatches
(Figure49).
