Important:Itisessentialthattherelationship
betweenthebottombladesandthecuttingcylinders
iskeptingoodadjustmentinordertoensuregood
cuttingperformance,minimumpowerconsumption
andprolongedlifeforthecuttingedges.
Donotbetemptedtooveradjust,thuscausingheavy
contactbetweenthecylinderandbottomblade,asthis
willcauseveryrapidunevenweartotakeplaceleading
totramliningandwavinessofthecuttingedges.The
frictionallosseswillbehighandasignicantamount
ofpowerwillbeabsorbed,thusreducingthepower
availableforcutting.Theheatingeffectduetofriction
willcauseexcessiveexpansiontotakeplacewhichwill
furtheraggravatethesituationbyincreasingthecontact
pressure.
Ifthecutterheadsareallowedtooperateformorethan
afewhourswithoutadjustment,therunningwearwill
eventuallycausethecylindertorunoutofcontactwith
thebottomblade.Atthisstageveryrapidrounding
ofthecuttingedgeswilloccurasgrassandabrasive
particlespassthroughtheclearancebetweentheblades.
Lackofattentiontoadjustmentscanresultin
maintenancecostsescalating.Thequalityofcutwill
alsobeseriouslyaffectedaswillthehealthandgrowth
ofthegrass.
Anexperiencedoperatorwillnoticewhenacutterhead
startstogooutofadjustment;whenthegrassceasesto
becutcleanlyandthecutendsbecomeragged.
Carryoutthefollowingprocedurebeforecommencing
workandcheckthesettingseveryfewhours.

2.Carefullyrotatethecylinderasshownandcheck
thatthepaperiscutcleanlyatallpointsalongthe
lengthoftheblade.Holdthepaperata90degree
rightangletothebottombladetoobtainthecorrect
cuttingaction.
WARNING
Ensurethatpeopleareclearofthecutting
cylindersasrotationofonemaycauseothers
torotate.
3.Ifadjustmentisnecessaryproceedasfollows,release
thenut(
Figure68)a1/4turnonbothends.
4.Turnhandwheel(Figure68)eachendalternately
whilstrotatingthecuttingcylinderbackwardsuntil
thebottombladeisineetingcontactwiththe
cylinderalongitsentirelength.
5.Checkthecuttingactionalongthelengthofthe
bottombladeusingathinpieceofpapermaking
marginaladjustmentsasnecessary.
6.Tightennut(Figure68)bothends.
Ifitisimpossibletoobtainagoodcleanpapercut
acrosstheentirelengthofthebottombladeitwillbe
