Theinterlockmodulepreventstheenginefromstartingunlessthetraction
controlisdisengaged.
Theinterlockmodulecontrolsgroundingoftheengineignitionsystem.Whenthe
enginestarterropeispulled,theenginemagnetowillbegintocreatecurrent.
Theinterlockmoduleusesthatcurrentthroughthetractionswitchtodetermine
thestateoftheswitch.Ifswitchstateiscorrect,theinterlockmoduleopensthe
magnetotogroundcircuitsotheenginecanstartandrun.Oncerunning,the
interlockmoduleallowstheenginetocontinuetooperate.
Iftheenginewillnotstart,performthefollowingteststodetermineiftheinterlock
moduleisatfault.
1.Checkoperationoftheengineignitionsystem;refertoIgnitionSystem
Operation(page6–5).
2.Checktheoperationoftractionswitch.Adjustorreplaceswitchifnecessary.
3.Checkwireharnessfordamage(seeWiringSchematicandWireHarness
Drawingsinthischapter).Repairorreplaceanydamagedwireharness
components.
4.Iftheengineignitionsystem,tractionswitchandwireharnessallprovetobe
operatingcorrectlyandenginedoesnotstart,replaceinterlockmodule.
