Maintenance
Aftereachuseofthetrimmer,completethefollowing:
1.Removethebatteryfromthetrimmer.
2.Wipethetrimmercleanwithadampcloth.Donot
hosethetrimmerdownorsubmergeitinwater.
CAUTION
Thelinecutoffbladeonthedeectorissharp
andcancutyou.
Donotuseyourhandstocleanthedeector
shieldandblade.
3.Wipeorscrapecleanthecuttingheadareaanytime
thereisanaccumulationofdebris.
4.Checkandtightenallfasteners.Ifanypartisdamaged
orlost,repairorreplaceit.
5.Brushdebrisawayfromairintakeventsandexhauston
motorhousingtopreventthemotorfromoverheating.
ReplacingtheSpool
Useonly2mm(0.080inch)diametermonolamentstring.
Usetheoriginalmanufacturer’sreplacementstringforbest
performance(ToroPartNo.88545).
Important:Usingalargerdiameterstringcausesthe
motortooverheatandfail.
1.Removethebattery.
2.Pushinthetabsonthesideofthespoolretaining
cover(Figure17).

3.Pullthespoolretainingcoveruptoremoveitand
removethespool.
4.Installthenewspoolsothatthestringalignswiththe
eyeletinthestringhead.Threadthestringintothe
eyelet.
5.Verifythattheendofthestringextendsapproximately
152mm(6inches)beyondtheslot.
6.Pullthestringextendingfromthestringheadsothat
thestringreleasesfromtheslotinthespool.
7.Installthespoolretainerbypressingthetabsintothe
slotsandpushingdownuntilthespoolretainerclicks
intoplace.
ReplacingtheString
1.Removethebattery.
2.Removethespool;refertoReplacingtheSpool(page
13).

thestringontothespoolinthedirectionshownbythe
arrowsonthespool.
5.Placethestringintheslotontheupperspoolange,
leavingabout152mm(6inches)extendedbeyondthe
slot.
Note:Donotoverll.Afterwindingthestring,there
shouldbeatleast6mm(1/4inch)betweenthewound
stringandtheoutsideedgeofthespool.
6.Replacethespoolandthespoolretainer;referto
