ServicingthePaperAirCleaner

1.Cleanthepaperelementbytappinggentlytoremove
dust.Ifitisverydirty,replacethepaperelementwitha
newone(Figure32).
2.Inspecttheelementfortears,anoilylm,ordamageto
therubberseal.
3.Replacethepaperelementifitisdamaged.
Donotcleanthepaperlter.Replaceitafter200operating
hours(Figure32).Inspecttheelementfortears,anoilylm,
ordamagetotherubberseal,andreplaceitifitisdamaged.
InstallingtheFoamandPaperElements
Important:Topreventenginedamage,alwaysoperate
theenginewiththecompletefoamandpaperaircleaner
assemblyinstalled.
1.Carefullyslidethefoamelementontothepaperair
cleanerelement(Figure32).
2.Placetheaircleanerassemblyontotheaircleanerbase
orhoseandsecureit(Figure32).
3.Placetheaircleanercoverintopositionandtightenthe
coverknobs(Figure32).

ServicingtheAirCleanerCoverand
Body
1.Stoptheengineandremovethekey.
2.Checktheaircleanerbodyfordamagewhichcould
causeanairleak.Checkthewholeintakesystemfor
leaks,damage,orloosehoseclamps.Replaceorrepair
anddamagedcomponents.
3.Releasethelatchesontheaircleanerandpulltheair
cleanercoveroffoftheaircleanerbody(Figure33).
Important:Donotremovetheairltersyet.

1.Gentlyslidetheprimarylteroutoftheaircleaner
body(Figure33).Avoidknockingthelterintothe
sideofthebody.
Important:Donotattempttocleantheprimary
lter.
2.Checktheconditionofthesafetylterwithout
removingit.Ifitisdirtyordamaged,replaceit.
Important:Neverattempttocleanthesafety
lter.
3.Inspectthenewlter(s)fordamagebylookinginto
thelterwhileshiningabrightlightontheoutsideof
thelter.Holesinthelterwillappearasbrightspots.
Inspecttheelementfortears,anoilylm,ordamageto
therubberseal.Ifthelterisdamageddonotuseit.
4.Ifyouarereplacingthesafetylter,carefullyslidethe
newlterintothelterbody(Figure33).
Important:Topreventenginedamage,always
operatetheenginewithbothairltersandcover
installed.
5.Carefullyslidetheprimarylteroverthesafetylter
(Figure33).Ensurethatitisfullyseatedbypushingon
theouterrimofthelterwhileinstallingit.
Important:Donotpressonthesoftinsidearea
ofthelter.
6.Installtheaircleanercoverwiththedustcaporiented
asshowninFigure33andsecurethelatches.
