The Total Gym Summit is a home exercise machine designed for strength training, body sculpting, weight loss, and general health maintenance. It offers 8 levels of resistance, making it suitable for users of varying fitness levels, ages, and sexes. The machine is designed to tone and strengthen major muscle groups in both the upper and lower body, and its strength training capabilities can help improve body composition by reducing body fat and increasing lean muscle, thereby boosting metabolism.
Function Description:
The Total Gym Summit operates on a glideboard system that moves along an inclined rail. Users perform exercises by pushing or pulling their body weight against gravity, with the incline level determining the resistance. The machine supports a wide range of exercises targeting different muscle groups, including pull-ups, chin-ups, squats, leg pulls, crunches, sit-ups, and front presses, among others. It is designed for regular use, with recommendations for 15-20 minute workouts, 3-4 days per week.

Usage Features:
The Total Gym Summit comes with several features to enhance its usability and versatility:
- Adjustable Resistance: The machine offers 8 levels of resistance, which are adjusted by raising or lowering the incline of the rails using the Height Adjustment Quick Release Pin (green knob). This allows users to progressively increase the intensity of their workouts as their fitness improves.
- Safety Pins:
- Height Adjustment Quick Release Pin (Green Knob): Controls the raising and lowering of the rails.
- Spring Loaded Pin (Black Knob): Releases the vertical column for folding and unfolding the gym.
- Safety Hitch Pin with Lanyard: A primary safety source that prevents rails from collapsing and the vertical column from falling forward if the green knob is not locked.
- Safety Hitch C Pin: A secondary safety source that prevents rails from collapsing and the vertical column from falling forward if the green knob is not locked.
- 1 Large Hitch Pin: Used to connect the Leg Pull Accessory bracket to the top of the vertical column.
- 4 Short Hitch Pins: Used to attach Dip Bars and Wing Attachments to the gym.
- Attachments:
- Wing Attachments: These versatile attachments can be placed at the top or bottom of the exerciser and angled towards or away from the glideboard. They are used for exercises like pull-ups, chin-ups, squats, leg pulls, crunches, sit-ups, and front presses. Two thick foam pads are included for comfort and must be attached to the crossbars.
- Leg Pull Accessory: Consists of a leg pulley bracket, cable, D-rings, and an ankle cuff. It connects to the top of the vertical column and allows for various leg exercises, targeting abdominals, waist, and legs.
- Dip Bars: Attach to the upper portion of the bottom frame using short hitch pins. They are used for exercises like dips, targeting the upper chest and triceps.
- Squat Stand (Square): Inserts into the front crossbar receptacles and is used for squat exercises, working the thighs and calves.
- Exercise Flip Chart: An exercise flip chart and its base are included, which can be inserted into the vertical column to provide visual guidance during workouts.
- Total Gym TV: The product integrates with Total Gym TV, an online platform offering workout videos. Users can access a basic free version with 7 top-rated workout videos or a monthly paid premium subscription for new workouts, cardio, strength training, and Pilates videos. It's accessible via internet browser or app on various devices (iOS, Android, Roku, Apple TV, Amazon FireTV).
- Start It Up! DVD: A DVD is included for initial guidance on setting up and starting workouts.
Maintenance Features:
Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and safe operation of the Total Gym Summit:
- Pre-Use Inspection: Before each use, users must inspect the equipment to ensure it is fully opened on a solid, level surface with adequate clearance, all safety hitch pins are securely in place, the pulley is attached correctly, the cable is traveling correctly in the pulley groove and securely fastened to handles, attachments are installed correctly, and the glideboard glides smoothly.
- Routine Cleaning: The unit should be wiped down regularly with a clean cloth and alcohol or alcohol-based products like Windex® or 409®. Towels or workout clothing should not be left on the equipment.
- Part Inspection: Periodically check the cable, pulleys, wheels, glideboard, attachments, accessories, and frame for signs of fraying or wear. Worn or damaged parts must be replaced before using the unit.
- Lubrication: Only 3-in-1 oil or machine oil should be used to lubricate the axles of the wheel or pulley; never lubricate the roller surface or use lubricants like WD-40® or ArmorAll® on the unit.
- Storage: To store the unit, all attachments and accessories must be removed. The safety hitch pins are removed, the cable pulley is attached to the glideboard, and the rails are slowly lowered by releasing the Height Adjustment Quick Release Pin. The Spring Loaded Pin is released to fold the vertical column down. The glideboard is then pulled up, allowing the rollers to bring the back of the unit towards the center, and the exerciser is folded completely for storage. It can be stored upright or under a bed.
- Glideboard Removal/Attachment: Instructions are provided for removing the glideboard for storage in narrow spaces (it weighs approximately 20 lbs) and for reattaching it when setting up the gym for use.
