5.2 Device description file (XML)
In order to achieve a simple plug-and-play configuration for PROFINET, the
characteristic communication features for PROFINET devices were defined in the form
of an electronic device datasheet, GSDML file:
General Station Description Markup Language”. In contrast to the PROFIBUS-DP
system the GSDML file is multilingual and contains several device variants in one file.
The defined file format allows the projection system to easily read the device master
data of the PROFINET measuring system and automatically take it into account when
configuring the bus system.
The GSDML file is a component of the measuring system and has the file name
GSDML-V2.x-TR-0153-PNRotative-current date.xml.
The respective measuring system type also includes a bitmap file with the name:
GSDML-0153-0102-C__xx_-EPN_x.bmp

5.3 Device identification
Each PROFINET IO-Device possesses a device identification. It consists of a firm
identification, the Vendor-ID, and a manufacturer-specific part, the Device-ID. The
Vendor-ID is assigned by the PNO. For TR-Electronic the Vendor-ID contains the
value 0x0153, the Device-ID has the value 0x0102.
When the system boots up the projected device identification is examined. In this way
errors in the project engineering can be recognized.
