Usage Features

Mounting and Installation: The BCI-R controller is mounted using supplied screws in designated locations within the rooftop unit's control panel. Specific mounting positions vary by unit type (Voyager II, Voyager III Commercial, Precedent, Odyssey).
Rotary Switches: Three rotary switches on the front of the BCI-R define a three-digit address, which is used for both the rotary switch value (physical address) and the BACnet device ID (logical address). These switches are set using a 1/8 inch (3 mm) flathead service screwdriver.
Wiring:
- Factory Wiring Harness: Connects the BCI-R to the ReliaTel controller (RTRM) via 4-pin and 5-pin connectors.
- BACnet Wiring: Communication link wiring is attached to the BACnet terminal block. The link select switch on the BCI-R must be set to BACnet for wired communication. The shield of the communication wire should be grounded only once per segment, typically at the building management controller, not at the BCI-R.
- Terminator Wiring: The BCI-R has a built-in end-of-line BACnet terminator. This terminator should be used when the BCI-R is at the end of the communication link. It is self-powered from the BCI-R board, requiring no additional power connections. If the BCI-R is not at the end of the link, the termination terminals should remain unused.
- Air-Fi™ Wireless Communications Interface (WCI) Wiring: If a wireless receiver is used, the link select switch on the BCI-R must be set to IMC (wireless communication). IMC wires (gray and blue), ground, and 24 Vdc/Vac wires (black and red) are connected as per the provided diagram.
USB Service Port: A USB bulkhead port is installed in a designated area of the rooftop unit, serving as a remote extension of the USB port on the BCI-R module for connecting to service tools like Tracer TU.
LED Indicators: Various LEDs provide status information:
- Service LED: Solid green indicates boot mode (non-operational, waiting for application download). Not illuminated indicates application code is running.
- Status LED: Solid green for normal operation, blinking green for flash updates, solid red for a crash, blinking red for alarms/faults, and not illuminated when the controller is off.
- Link Tx/Rx LEDs: TX blinks green for data transmission, RX blinks yellow for data reception. A solid yellow RX indicates reverse polarity.
- Modbus Tx/Rx LEDs: Blinking for data transfer, not illuminated for no activity.
- Link LEDs: BACnet illuminated for wired communication, IMC illuminated for wireless communication.
Switches:
- Link Select Switch: Used to select between wired (BACnet) or wireless (IMC) communication.
- Service Button: Pressing this button and restarting the controller puts it into boot mode.

Maintenance Features

Controller Clearing and Factory Defaults Restoration: The BCI-R controller can be cleared, and factory defaults restored using the Tracer BACnet Setup Tool or Tracer TU. This process involves selecting "Clear Controller" in the software, which will reset the controller and restore its factory default state after a restart.
Application Code Updates: The application code for the BCI-R can be updated using Tracer TU.
Managing Device Units: Device units (e.g., Celsius or Fahrenheit) can be viewed and managed on the Controller Units screen in either the BACnet Setup Tool or Tracer TU. When the BCI-R powers up or is cleared, a list of points (role document) is created from the ReliaTel RTRM module via Modbus. The device units default to SI values but can be changed. To change device units using Tracer TU, it is recommended to unplug the Modbus cable or power down the unit to enable the Device Units radio button selection.
