RF-SVN03F-EN 5
Overview
This installation document contains information about the
BACnet Communication Interface for rooftop air
conditioning units with ReliaTel unit control.
The following Trane products are supported:
• Voyager and Voyager Commercial constant volume
(CV) units.
• Voyager
and Voyager Commercial variable air volume
(VAV) units.
• Precedent
packaged air conditioning unit.
• Odyssey split system air conditioning equipment.
This controller allows the above named equipment the
capability
to:
• Communicate
on a BACnet communications network.
• Be part of a Tracer SC system controller network.
• Provide customers the flexibility to choose the best
possible
vendor for
their building subsystems.
• Easily incorporate Trane products into legacy non-
Trane systems in
existing buildings.
The BCI-R controller is available as a factory-installed
option or field-installed
kit. The features and functions
described in this manual apply to either option. The
following sections describe:
• A brief overview of the BACnet protocol.
• Field kit inspection and controller specifications.
• Controller mounting and installation.
• Rotary switch settings.
• Field-installed wiring.
• LEDs and switches.
BACnet Protocol
The Building Automation and Control Network (BACnet
and ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 135-2004) protocol is a
standard that allows building automation systems or
components from different manufacturers to share
information and control functions. BACnet provides
building owners the capability to connect various types of
building control systems or subsystems together for a
variety of reasons. In addition, multiple vendors can use
this protocol to share information for monitoring and
supervisory control between systems and devices in a
multi-vendor interconnected system.
The BACnet protocol identifies standard objects (data
points)
called BACnet
objects. Each object has a defined
list of properties that provide information about that
object. BACnet also defines a number of standard
application services that are used to access data and
manipulate these objects and provides a client/server
communication between devices. For more information
on BACnet protocol, refer to “Additional Resources,” p. 22.
BACnet Testing Laboratory (BTL) Certification
The BCI-R supports the BACnet communication protocol
and has been designed to meet the requirements of the
application-specific control profile. For more details, refer
to the BTL web site at www.bacnetassociation.org.
