Mock-up Tests of the WSHP
Because the transfer function (the difference between sound pressure and sound power) of a water-source comfort system
is often a complex function of environment and operating mode, we have found it advantageous to supplement sound
power certification tests with sound pressure measurements taken in a mock-up of a typical environment. The model GEH
mock-up tests were conducted in a 15-ft x 15-ft room with the following characteristics. See Figure 53 for room character-
istics during sound testing.
Sheet rock walls and no windows
Standard office-type carpeting
Standard office-type 2-ft x 2-ft acoustical tile drop
ceiling
Open light fixture directly under
the unit (line of sight from room to bottom of unit)
20-ft x 20-ft reflecting plane 8-inches above the unit
Ducted discharge
Ducted return with an 8-inch flex connection to room,
18-inches from the unit
For convenience, NC data for all GEH and GEV units are provided on Page 105.
Model GEH NC levels are tabulated in performance Tables 59 and 60. Test results are given for each of the four cabinet
sizes. Measurements were taken for the largest tonnage of each cabinet size.
Mock-up test data provides an excellent general look at how the units would perform in a typical environment. If the pro-
posed installation varies significantly from the mock-up facility and room acoustics are a concern an acoustical prediction
is justified. As mentioned before, a predictive analysis requires octave band sound power data.
Because of the large volume of ARI-260 sound power data, we refer you to the TOPSS program for octave band and overall
levels for various components.
