Glossary of Terminology
Active Keypad: A keypad that is enabled for Touch Tone generation.
Ajar Fault Detect: Normally produces a contact closure when a portal is forced open.
Ajar Input: Electrical input detects a contact closure that specifies a custom procedure.
Alarm Timer: Programmable timer value applied as System Lockup for tampering detection.
Anti-Passback: Requires a card to be used at exit before enabled re-use at entrance.
Audit: Refers to a log kept regarding event activity with time recorded each event.
Auto Site ID: Automatic transmission of Site ID on call answered detection.
Auto Volume: Applies to automatic volume control based on ambient noise at the microphone.
Call Length Timer: A countdown timer that auto-disconnects call on expiration.
Call Progress: Detection of tone cadences indicating Busy, Ring, Dial tone and Voice.
Card Codes: A Card or Fob Code linked to a specific resident via their resident code.
Code Ranges: Defines a range of codes for alternate use besides normal access control.
Database: A collection of data in a consistent format applied to a specific theme.
Dialer Looping: In dialing a list of phone numbers, allows loop to first if not answered.
Dialer Modes: Applies to call progress, false dialing, dial tone detection.
Directory: A display to shows names and codes for visitors to a secured area.
DST: Daylight Savings Time adjusts clock up 1 hour for spring and back 1 hour for fall.
Entry Codes: A Keypad Code linked to a specific resident via their resident code.
Entry Message: A message voiced to a visitor to enter when gate unlocking is not obvious.
Factory Default: Program settings preset as shipped from the factory.
Fob: Like a card but usually transmits it's assigned code via RF technology.
Full Duplex: Speakerphone Technology allowing simultaneous bi-directional talking.
Gate 1 Cycle Timer: Programmable timer value applied to Relay-1 from 1 to 45 seconds.
Gate 2 Cycle Timer: Programmable timer value applied to Relay-2 from 1 to 45 seconds.
Gate 3 Cycle Timer: Programmable timer value applied to Relay-3 from 1 to 45 seconds.
Greeting Screens: A display screen set aside for greeting a visitor or extra information.
Half Duplex: Speakerphone Technology that switches Talk and Listen modes by source volume.
Handset Mode: To use a handset as opposed to speaker phone technology.
HF3 Mode: A single button dialer dials from a phone list used for access control.
Hook Switch Input: An electrical input sensing contact closure from a hook switch.
Hook Switch: A push button or cradle assembly for indicating intent to dial when active.
LAN: Local Area Network used for digital communication between devices in a network.
Macro Commands: User Coded Commands executed at specified times adds customized behaviors.
Master Erase: Block erase of system memory that targets specific databases.
MG3 Mode: A keypad selective multi-number residential dialer with a name directory.
Modem Extension: A two digit ID per unit for multiple units on a single phone line.
Modem: A device for bi-directional digital communication on a phone line.
Muted Site ID: Automatic transmission of Site ID on call answered detection muted locally.
Phone Lists: One or more phone number lists that are dialed in sequence until one answers.
Pooled Card Codes: A generic collection of card codes not linked to a resident code.
Pooled Entry Codes: A generic collection of keypad codes not linked to a resident code.
Postal Entry: Using a Postal key by a Postman to gain entry for delivery of mail.
Postal Switch Input: An electrical input sensing contact closure from a postal switch.
Postal Switch: A special lock supplied by the post office for postman keys.
Program Mode: To place a unit into a receptive state for input of data.
Programming Access Code: A 4 digit code entered to unit to place it in programming mode.
Prompt Lines: A displayed message with extra instructions applied to a visitor.
Quiet Keypad: A keypad that has audio feedback for keydown disabled.
Resident Code: An assigned short number translated to a phone number for dialing resident.
Resident: A person that dwells within a building.
Ring Counter: Counts Ring Cycles when the unit is called.
Ring Down: A term that applies to closing a phone line loop to call without dialing.
Ring Rollover: A Limit Value set for excessive Ring-Tones counted forcing a new dial out.
RS232: An old standard for bi-directional digital communication on 3 wires.
RS485: An new standard for bi-directional digital communication on 2 wires.
Security Modes: Methods to circumvent illegal access via microphone Touch Tone injection.
Site Code: A 3 digit extension added to the normal 5 digit card codes.
Site ID Code: A unique 4 digit ID code assigned per unit for ID requesting remotely.
Switch: In this document refers to a virtual switch as applied to Macro Commands.
System Clock: The clock and calendar functions for usage logging and access restrictions.
