General principles and steps for sharpening a knife using the device.
The TSPROF K03 Pro Sharpening Device is a universal sharpening tool designed for double-sided sharpening of knives without removing the blade from the clamps. This allows for sharpening of both sides of the blade without repositioning, enhancing efficiency and precision.
The device accommodates knives with a spine thickness of up to 7 mm, blade lengths ranging from 30 to 400 mm, and blade widths from 13 mm. It is compatible with abrasives up to 210 mm in length and 3 to 16 mm in thickness (with a blank). In its operating position, without the abrasive holder, the device measures 500 x 200 x 260 mm (LxWxH) and weighs 2600 g with the abrasive holder. It offers a wide sharpening angle range, from a minimum of 8° per side to a maximum of 39° per side, depending on the type of clamp used, allowing for a total sharpening angle of up to 78°.
The TSPROF K03 Pro boasts several advanced features for precise and convenient sharpening. The abrasive holder integrates an Axicube-i electronic angle finder, enabling real-time monitoring of the sharpening angle with an accuracy of 0.1°. This display is easily readable in various lighting conditions and is resistant to vibrations. The abrasive holder guide rod, made of steel, ensures rigid fixation of abrasives, both with and without a blank, and maintains angular deflection after assembly, even under load.
The hinge unit features an advanced design, allowing for a broad range of sharpening angles from 8° to 39° per side. The rack and pinion lift, crafted from aircraft-grade aluminum, includes a sharpening angle scale and connects to a dovetail base. A locking screw prevents accidental movements. An additional lifting rod can be used to increase the sharpening angle, providing a two-step adjustment: coarse adjustment with the rack and pinion lift and fine adjustment with the extended angle axis.
The rotary unit incorporates a unique mechanism for smooth rotation and reliable auto-locking of the clamping frame. Its spring and bearing system ensures wear-free rotation. The auto-rotation system body is made of durable, black anodized aircraft-grade aluminum.
For preparation, the device can be used with or without a stand. If used without a stand, spacers and bumpers should be applied, and the body clamped to a table. If used with a stand, bumpers are applied to the stand, and the device body is fixed into the stand's recess with thumbscrews.
Assembly involves installing and fixing the abrasive holder into the bushing-coupling of the guide rod, then adjusting the control ring for the desired locking force. The abrasive holder rod is placed in the hinge unit, with springs, stroke limiter, and parking boot positioned correctly. Clamps are mounted to the frame, and their locking screws tightened, with positioning adjusted based on blade length and geometry. The knife is then positioned and fixed in the clamps using a 4mm hex key, ensuring the jaws are parallel and not over-clamped. Masking tape is recommended to protect coated or polished knife surfaces where the jaws make contact.
Setting the sharpening angle requires calibrating the electronic angle finder using the included calibration prism. This involves placing a clamp on the left side of the device frame, securing the calibration prism close to the clamp, placing the angle finder on the prism, adjusting the rack and pinion lift height to eliminate any gap, and fixing the lift with a locking screw. The angle finder is then activated and calibrated to display 14.0°. Recalibration is necessary if the device's position is changed.
Knife clamping involves covering the knife with masking tape to prevent scratches, positioning the blade parallel to the frame, and carefully tightening the clamp screws without overtightening. The sharpening angle is chosen based on the knife's purpose, with a provided table offering guidance for various knife types. Sharpening is performed by moving the abrasive away from oneself, progressing through different grit sizes from coarse to fine, until a burr forms on each side. The abrasive holder is then parked, the frame flipped, and the process repeated for the other side. A marker can be used to identify the existing secondary bevel for sharpening at the knife's current angle.
To ensure longevity and proper function, the device requires regular maintenance. Protective marks on the machine indicate warranty validity. Moving mating surfaces should be lubricated with liquid oils (household or industrial). Before each use, the device should be checked for good working order, and any malfunctions reported to the manufacturer. Movement of the abrasive bar holder during sharpening should be consistent, smooth, and without excessive pressure.
After use, the device should be cleaned thoroughly, and surfaces prone to corrosion wiped with a cloth lightly dampened with household oil. For storage, the device should be kept in its original packaging or a dust-free place at temperatures between +5°C and +40°C, in a dark, dry room. In humid climates, moisture regulator bags should be placed in the box, and technical oil applied to prevent corrosion. The device can be transported at temperatures from -40°C to +50°C, but if transported at subzero temperatures, it should be allowed to acclimate for at least 3 hours at room temperature before use.
Disposal of the device and packaging should follow local waste management standards. The electronic angle finder should be disposed of separately at a hazardous waste collection point or through certified recycling companies, as it is an electrical device.
Warranty obligations are detailed on the manufacturer's website. The standard warranty period is 1 year from the date of sale, or no more than 1.5 years from the date of manufacture, with possibilities for extension under special programs. Warranty repairs cover defects in materials and assembly and are performed at the manufacturer's facilities. Packing materials are not covered. Warranty repairs are void if the equipment is not used for its intended purpose, has external mechanical damage, defects due to non-compliance with storage/transportation rules or adverse environmental effects, damage from failure to observe operating conditions or structural modifications, foreign objects entering the equipment, or delays in scheduled maintenance and lubrication. Setting, adjustment, and preventive maintenance are provided on a paid basis. Failure to follow operating instructions voids the warranty. For warranty or post-warranty service, contact the manufacturer via email.
