Do you have a question about the Viqua Arros 9-IHS10 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The VIQUA Arros™ is an ultraviolet (UV) water system designed to provide advanced UV technology for water treatment, ensuring years of trouble-free operation with minimal maintenance. It is available in several models, including Arros 9-IHS10, Arros 9-IHS12, Arros 15-IHS10, Arros 15-IHS12, Arros 15-IHS22, and Arros 22-IHS22. These systems have been validated through microbial testing for UV dose delivery to inactivate Cryptosporidium, Giardia, Escherichia coli (E. coli), and Fecal Coliform.

Function Description:

The VIQUA Arros™ system utilizes UV light to disinfect water, effectively inactivating harmful microorganisms without the use of chemicals. Water flows through a UV Chamber where it is exposed to UV-C light emitted by a UV Lamp Unit. This process ensures that the water is safe for consumption. The system is designed for permanent connection to water lines and is intended for potable water applications. It is not to be used in or above water, outdoors, or in swimming pools.

    • Red: Major alarm condition (lamp life = 0 days or UV Lamp Unit failure).
  • Firmware Updates: The system's Wi-Fi capability allows for firmware updates via the VIQUA app on a smartphone or tablet. This feature is for updates only and does not provide system status or control.

Maintenance Features:

  • Annual UV Lamp Unit Replacement: To ensure ongoing optimal operation, the UV Lamp Unit must be replaced annually (after approximately 9000 hours of continuous operation). Only genuine VIQUA replacement lamps should be used to avoid damage to the control module, safety risks, and voiding the warranty.
  • Cleaning Procedure:
    • Distribution System Sanitization: The entire distribution system located after the UV System must be chemically cleaned to ensure it is free from contaminants. This should be done immediately after installation and repeated whenever the UV System is shut down for service, without power, or inoperative. The procedure involves shutting off water, removing cartridges, pouring household bleach into filter housings, allowing it to sit, then flushing all water outlets until bleach is no longer smelled.
    • Quartz Envelope Cleaning: Minerals in the water can form a coating on the quartz envelope, reducing UV light transmission. The quartz envelope should be cleaned with a cloth soaked in CLR, vinegar, or a mild acid, then rinsed with water. If the envelope cannot be cleaned, the UV Lamp Unit assembly must be replaced.
  • Cartridge Replacement: Filter cartridges should be changed regularly, approximately 3-4 times per year, depending on water quality and usage. A gradual drop in water pressure indicates that pre-filter cartridges are nearing the end of their useful life. The procedure involves disconnecting power, shutting off water, releasing pressure, removing old cartridges, installing new ones, and then restoring water flow and power.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual provides a comprehensive troubleshooting section to address common issues such as no power, GFCI trips, leaks, alarms, bacterial contamination, pressure drop, high bacteria counts, heated product water, milky water, and unit leaking. It offers possible causes and solutions for each symptom.
  • Seasonal Home/Freezing Temperatures: Always drain the UV Chamber when closing a seasonal home or leaving the unit in an area subject to freezing temperatures to prevent damage.
  • Bypass Assembly: The use of a bypass assembly is recommended for "off-line" maintenance. If water is used during bypass conditions, a supplementary disinfectant is required, and a "DO NOT CONSUME THE WATER" tag should be physically installed. Water consumed during bypass must be boiled for twenty minutes.
  • Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) Protection: The electronic controller must be connected to a GFCI receptacle, and the green ground wire ring terminal must be securely fastened to the ground stud on the UV Chamber.
  • System Protection: A UL1449 certified (or equivalent) transient voltage surge suppressor is strongly recommended to protect the controller.

The VIQUA Arros™ system is designed for ease of installation and maintenance, but adherence to the instructions and recommended water quality parameters is crucial for optimal performance and to maintain warranty coverage. The UV Lamp Unit contains mercury, and proper disposal is required if the lamp breaks.
