Flydrive 120-150 Antenna 18
3.5 OFFSET SATELLITE ADJUSTMENT
If a satellite is rotated by 45 degrees in polarisation then a modification is needed to the
feedhorn cartridge to improve the cross polar performance of the antenna.
This currently only applies to some OPTUS satellites and Advent Communications should be
consulted if clarification is needed. Most satellites do not need this modification.
The modification involves rotating the front end of the feedhorn within its cartridge between
two positions. The positions are shown as 0 and 45 degrees. In normal operation the
feedhorn should be left in the 0 degree position.
To adjust the feedhorn to the 45 degree position, remove the cartridge cover and loosen the
feedhorn front clamp screws. Then rotate the front end of the feedhorn by 45 degrees so that
the arrow label is pointing at the 45 degree label. The clamp should then be tightened and
the cover replaced. Polarisation adjustment is then carried out as normal.
3.6 DRIVE CONTROL UNIT
The Flydrive antenna is fitted with an advanced DCU5000 drive control unit. This implements
full motorised control of all 3 antenna axis and interfaces with the antenna position and
inclinometer sensors to enable fully automatic stow and deploy sequencing. (For the
DCU5000 manual, see document 209297.)
The DCU5000 is designed to be controlled using the Advent ACU range of controllers. The
detailed operational procedure of the antenna is covered in the relevant ACU manual
supplied with the system.
The Flydrive has two possible stow positions. One with the feedarm fitted, and the other
when the feedarm has been removed to stow the system for transportation in its case.
