TheVOLVOsystemschemicallyalterssootbyhighheatintoaharmlessgaswhichpasses
outthroughthestackpipe.Atthesehightemperatures,theprocessisrelativelyrapid(10–12
minutes).Eventually,theltermustberemovedtopermitclearingawayoftheashwith
specialequipment.
TheDPF-muferhasanintegratedheatinsulationthatcoversmostareasofthemufer.The
DPFmufersareun-insulatedattheV-clampbodyconnections,inletandoutletpipes.
Thefollowingsurfacetemperatureshavebeenmeasuredwiththemuferfreelypositioned
inaroomtemperatureenvironmentwithnoforcedcoolingorwind(onlyselfconvection).
Note:Thesearenotmaximumtemperatures!Thesurfacetemperatureinacertainvehicle
installations,isdependentonthedegreeofencapsulationandtheairowaroundthemufer.
