Measures to be taken after a fire
When handling a machine which has been damaged by fire or the
exposure to intense heat, the following protective measures be
strictly observed must under any circumstances:
– Use thick gloves made of rubber and wear goggles which will
definitely protect your eyes.
– Never touch burnt components with your bare hands, as there
is a risk that you may come into contact with melted polymer
materials. First wash thoroughly with plenty of lime water (a so-
lution or suspension of calcium hydroxide, i.e. slaked lime in
water).
– As a precaution, seals (O-rings and other oil seals) should al-
ways be handled as if they were made of fluorinated rubber.
– If there is a suspicion that skin has come into contact with burnt
fluorinated rubber, treat these skin parts with Hydrofluoric Acid
Burn Jelly or something similar. Seek medical advice. Symptom
may not appear until several hours later.
– Dispose of gloves, cloths etc. which may have been in contact
with burnt fluorinated rubber and do not use again.
Diesel fuel and hydraulic fluid
Diesel fuel or hydraulic fluid under pressure can penetrate skin or
eyes and cause serious injury.
