Clean Grass Buildup Under Deck
Frequency: Each Use
DANGER
Before raising the mower deck for cleaning,
stop the engine, and re move the ignition key.
1. Place the deck in the tilt-up position. For
details on this procedure, see “Deck Tilt-Up
Position” on page 29.
DANGER
Do not operate the mower with deck in tilt-up
position. Do not move the tractor with the deck
in the tilt-up position.
2. Clean grass buildup underneath the deck
using a pressure washer (and scraper if re-
quired).
NOTE: While some degree of material build-
up in the mower deck housing can be toler-
ated, a point is nally reached where cutting
quality deteriorates and clogging begins
to occur because of too much buildup on the
bafing and housing.
NOTE: While the deck is in the tilt-up posi-
tion, it is recommended to visually inspect the
blades. For more information, see “Inspect/
Service Mower Blades” on page 37.
3. Lower the deck to the normal operating posi-
tion and re-engage the deck lock levers.
CAUTION
Do not operate machine with deck tilt-up pivot
joint unlocked.
Inspect/Service Mower Blades
Frequency: Each use or after 10 hours of opera-
tion
Check mower blade(s) for straightness, sharp-
ness, and condition of the cutting edge. Replace
blades if worn, bent, cracked, or otherwise dam-
aged.
Sharpen the blades after every 10 hours of opera-
tion (or more often when mowing abrasive type
grass or operating on sandy soils).
NOTE: Keep blades sharp. Cutting with dull
blades not only yields a poor mowing job but
slows the cutting speed of the mower and causes
extra wear on the engine and blade drive by pull-
ing hard.
DANGER
Before raising the mower deck for service,
stop the engine, and re move the ignition key.
1. Place the deck in the tilt-up position. For
details on this procedure, see “Deck Tilt-Up
Position” on page 29.
DANGER
Do not operate the mower with deck in tilt-up
position. Do not move the tractor with the deck
in the tilt-up position.
2. Check the blades for straightness by marking
the blade tip position inside the deck hous-
ing, and then rotating the opposite end of the
blade to the same position and comparing. If
the dif ference in blade tip track is more than
1/8 in. (3 mm), the blade is bent and should
be re placed.
