Replacing the Blade Drive Belt (PTO)
1. With the engine off and the key removed from
the ignition, raise the footrest.
2. Remove the four (4) wing nuts on the deck
belt cover and slide the cover out.
3. Use a 9/16 in. (14 mm) socket wrench (with
a long drive handle for increased leverage) to
rotate the deck idler arm clockwise and create
slack in the belt. Remove the belt from the LH
spindle pulley.
Note: A second person may be helpful in
removing the belt as the spring tension on the
deck idler arm is fairly strong.

4. Remove the belt from around the remaining
pulleys.
5. Lift the seat panel, and remove the belt from
the idler pulleys and the clutch pulley below
the engine. Remove the loosened belt.
6. Slide a new belt [Walker P/N 1731 (42”) or
1731-1 (48”)] under the tractor, and route it
through the middle sets of idler pulleys. Un-
lock the carrier frame pivot joint on each side
of the deck to lower the deck and give clear-
ance to lift the drive belt cover. Lifting this
cover provides access to the idler pulleys on
the deck side. There are eight (8) pulleys with
four (4) on each side.
