Overview

This document describes the Weber® gas grill, a portable outdoor cooking appliance designed for grilling, roasting, and baking. It emphasizes safety, proper assembly, operation, and maintenance to ensure a long lifespan and optimal performance.

Function Description:

The Weber® gas grill is designed to cook food outdoors using propane gas. It features a closed lid that helps create an "outdoor" flavor in food and allows for grilling, roasting, and baking. The appliance is portable, allowing users to easily change its location in a yard or patio, and can be moved if the user relocates. Propane gas supply is easy to use and provides more cooking control compared to charcoal fuel. The grill includes a burner tube with an air shutter fitted with a stainless steel screen to prevent spiders and other insects from nesting, which could block gas flow and cause a fire. The ignition system allows for easy lighting of the burner.

Usage Features:

Before operating, users must read the owner's guide, especially the "Lighting" instructions. The grill is designed for outdoor use only and should never be used in enclosed areas like garages, buildings, or breezeways. It should not be used under an unprotected combustible roof or overhang, nor installed in recreational vehicles or boats. A minimum clearance of 61cm (24 inches) from combustible materials (top, bottom, back, or sides) is required. The entire cooking box becomes hot during use, so it should never be left unattended, and young children should be kept away. Heat-resistant grill mitts or gloves are recommended when operating.

To use the grill, the lid must be open, and the burner control knob turned to OFF before connecting the propane cylinder. The minimum cylinder capacity is 4.5 kg, and the maximum is 9 kg. The adapter hose is screwed into the regulator connection, and the QCC1 fitting is connected to the propane cylinder and tightened by hand. Leak checks are crucial after connecting the gas fitting, using a soap and water solution to detect bubbles. If a leak is detected, the gas supply must be turned OFF, and the grill should not be operated.

For lighting, the lid must be open, and the control knob set to OFF. The user should keep their face and body at least 305mm (1 foot) away from the matchlight hole. The burner control knob is then pushed down and turned to START/HI, and the red ignition button is pushed several times until it clicks and the burner lights. If the burner does not light, the control knob must be turned to OFF, and the user must wait five minutes for the gas to clear before attempting to relight or use a match. Manual lighting involves striking a match and placing the flame into the matchlight hole under the igniter.

Preheating is essential before cooking. After lighting, the lid is closed, and the burner control knob is set to Start/Hi. The grill preheats for 5-10 minutes, depending on conditions like air temperature and wind. Once preheated, the control knob is adjusted to the desired cooking temperature. Wind and weather may necessitate adjustments to the burner control knob. If the burner goes out during cooking, the lid should be opened, the burner turned off, and five minutes allowed before relighting.

Excess drippings and grease collect in the catch pan located in the slide-out bottom tray. Disposable Weber® drip pans are available for this purpose. The catch pan and the bottom of the grill should be checked for grease build-up before each use to prevent fires. The grill should not be moved while operating or when hot.

Cooking with the lid down is recommended to reduce flare-ups and cook food faster and more evenly. A light coating of oil on food helps with even browning and prevents sticking to the cooking grate. Marinades, sauces, or glazes with high sugar content should only be brushed on food during the last 10 to 15 minutes of grilling to prevent burning.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is crucial for safe and efficient operation. After periods of storage or nonuse, the grill should be checked for gas leaks and burner obstructions. The spider/insect screen also requires inspection.

Cleaning involves turning the grill OFF and allowing it to cool. Outside surfaces can be cleaned with warm soapy water and rinsed. Oven cleaner, abrasive cleansers (especially those with citrus products), or abrasive cleaning pads should not be used on the grill or cart surfaces. The slide-out bottom tray should be removed, excess grease discarded, and then washed with warm soapy water. The cooking grate should be cleaned with a brass bristle brush and, when needed, removed and washed with warm soapy water. The catch pan can be lined with aluminum foil or washed with warm soapy water. The inside of the cooking box should be brushed to remove debris from burner tubes, and then washed with warm soapy water. The inside of the lid should be wiped with a paper towel while warm to prevent grease build-up, which can resemble paint flakes.

The burner tube air shutter, fitted with a stainless steel screen, should be inspected at least once a year, or if symptoms like a gas smell with yellow/lazy flames, uneven heating, or burners not igniting occur. The screen should be brushed lightly with a soft bristle brush; hard or sharp tools should not be used, nor should the screen be dislodged or its openings enlarged.

For main burner cleaning, the gas supply is turned off, and the burner is removed. The inside of the burner is cleaned with a wire (like a straightened coat hanger), and the burner is lightly tapped to remove debris. The air shutter opening and valve orifice should also be checked and cleaned. A steel bristle brush can be used on the outside of the burner to ensure all burner ports are fully open. The burner tube must be positioned correctly over the ignition box.

The ignition system should be checked if it fails to light the burner. This involves ensuring both white and black ignition wires are properly attached and that the ignition button pushes down and returns to the up position. If the system still fails, customer service should be contacted.

The manual also provides a "Troubleshooting" section to address common issues like yellow/orange flames, low flame, flare-ups, and igniter problems, offering checks and cures for each. Regular brushing of the cooking grate and cleaning of the drip pan are recommended.
