3.5 Black Smoke Exhaust
Smoke emission is a very important target representing the
fuel condition. The abnormal smoke emission indicates that there
is problem with the combustion. The colors of the abnormal smoke
are usually black, blue and white. Emitting black smoke indicates
that the diesel fuel does not burn very well. Try to locate the reason
on air and fuel. Emitting blue smoke suggests oil burning. Look
for the reason on the oil. Emitting white smoke can be divided into
two categories: continuous gray smoke indicates there is water in
the fuel. The white smoke during startup is generally consisted of
the tiny diesel fuel particles. The abnormal smoke emission is the
incidental phenomenon of other failures. The diagnosis and the
removal of relevant failure run through this material.
