Overview

The Winegard MT-SM10 Rear Cab Mount is an assembly, installation, and operation manual for a mounting system designed to support various Winegard antennas on trucks. This mount is specifically intended for use with Winegard Carryout G2+, Winegard Pathway X1, Winegard DuraSat, Winegard Connect WF1xT, and Winegard Connect 4G1xT antennas. It is crucial to understand that the MT-SM10 is exclusively for truck installations and is not compatible with other vehicle types or products.

Function Description

The primary function of the Winegard MT-SM10 Rear Cab Mount is to provide a stable and secure platform for mounting Winegard satellite and Wi-Fi antennas on the rear cab of a truck. This mount ensures that the antenna is positioned optimally for signal reception, particularly for satellite TV antennas which require a clear line-of-sight to the southern sky. The design includes a pivot plate that allows for leveling adjustments, ensuring the antenna remains within three degrees of level for best performance. The mount also incorporates features for routing and securing power and coaxial cables, maintaining a tidy and protected installation.

For satellite antennas, the mount offers two options for positioning the antenna: an inner and an outer position. The outer position is recommended if the mount is installed below the vehicle roof line, helping to mitigate potential signal obstructions from the tractor itself. The mount's robust construction and secure fastening methods are designed to withstand the rigors of truck operation, providing a reliable base for the antenna.

For Winegard Connect Wi-Fi antennas, the mount provides a secure attachment point for the Outdoor Unit (ODU). The installation process involves carefully securing the ODU to the pivot plate, ensuring proper orientation for cable entry. The system also includes provisions for connecting the ODU to a Power over Ethernet (PoE) inserter, which manages power and Ethernet connectivity for the Wi-Fi antenna.

Usage Features

The MT-SM10 mount is designed with several features to facilitate ease of use and optimal performance:

  • Adjustable Leveling Surface: The pivot plate allows for precise leveling of the antenna, crucial for maintaining optimal signal reception. This adjustment ensures the antenna can be set to within three degrees of level, accommodating variations in truck cab surfaces.
  • Multiple Antenna Positioning Options: For satellite antennas, the mount offers both inner and outer mounting positions. This flexibility allows installers to choose the best placement to avoid obstructions and maximize signal strength, especially when the mount is installed below the roof line.
  • Cable Management: The mount includes a cable entry plate and provides cable clamps and ties for securing coaxial and power cables. This helps to protect the cables from damage, prevent unnecessary movement, and maintain a clean installation aesthetic.
  • Power Switch Integration (Optional): For antennas requiring a 12V power source, an optional power switch can be installed. This switch allows users to easily turn the antenna power on or off, which is also recommended for safety and to avoid distraction while driving. If the 12V plug is cut, a 250V/3A fast-acting fuse must be installed in line at the power source for safety.
  • Robust Construction: The mount is designed to be securely fastened to the truck's rigid structure, ensuring stability even during vehicle movement. It is important to consult the vehicle manufacturer for appropriate fastening methods and materials to ensure a secure installation.
  • Compatibility with Specific Winegard Antennas: The mount is tailored to fit Winegard Carryout G2+, Pathway X1, DuraSat, Connect WF1xT, and Connect 4G1xT antennas, ensuring a perfect fit and optimal integration.

Maintenance Features

To ensure the longevity and continued performance of the Winegard MT-SM10 Rear Cab Mount and the attached antenna, regular maintenance is recommended:

  • Initial Bolt Check: After the first 1000 miles of operation, it is essential to verify that all nuts and bolts are tight. Specifically, the 1/4"-20 bolts securing the antenna to the mount should be checked to ensure they are within the torque specifications of 40-60 in*lbs.
  • Annual Check-up: Following the initial 1000-mile check-up, an annual inspection of all nuts and bolts is recommended to ensure they remain securely tightened.
  • Cleaning: The mount and antenna should be periodically cleaned to remove any build-up of dirt. This can be done using water, a cloth or paper towel, and dish soap. Regular cleaning helps to prevent corrosion and maintain the aesthetic appearance of the unit.
  • Cable Inspection: Periodically inspect all cables for any signs of wear, fraying, or damage. Ensure that cable clamps and ties are still securely holding the cables in place, preventing unnecessary movement that could lead to damage.
  • Power Disconnection Before Travel: To avoid distraction while driving, it is recommended to remove power from the Winegard product before traveling. This is a simple maintenance step that contributes to safety.

Adhering to these maintenance guidelines will help ensure the MT-SM10 Rear Cab Mount and the connected antenna continue to function reliably and safely over time.
