Overview

The CentriPro MP PLUS Automatic Pump Controller is a sophisticated device designed to manage and optimize the operation of single-phase 220/240V pumps up to 1.1 kW. It acts as an intelligent control unit, ensuring efficient and reliable water supply by automatically starting and stopping the pump based on system demand. This controller is a product of CentriPro, a brand under Xylem, known for its commitment to solving water-related challenges.

Function Description

The primary function of the CentriPro MP PLUS is to automate pump operation, eliminating the need for traditional pressure tanks and pressure switches in many applications. When a tap or outlet is opened, causing a drop in system pressure and initiating water flow, the controller detects this change and automatically starts the pump. Conversely, when all taps are closed and water flow ceases, the controller stops the pump, maintaining a constant pressure in the system. This "flow-based" control ensures that the pump only runs when water is actually being drawn, leading to energy savings and reduced wear on the pump.

The controller is pre-set by the manufacturer to have a restarting/cut-in pressure of either 1.5 to 2.0 Bar, ensuring that the pump activates at an appropriate threshold to maintain system pressure. For optimal performance, the pump connected to the MP PLUS must be capable of producing at least 3 Bar of pressure.

A key safety feature of the MP PLUS is its integrated check valve, which helps prevent the pipeline from losing pressure when the pump is not running. This ensures that the system remains primed and ready for immediate operation. The device also incorporates a safety valve to prevent water emission in case of diaphragm breakage, further enhancing its reliability and user safety.

The MP PLUS is equipped with an automatic restart and anti-jamming function, which is particularly useful in scenarios of water shortage or potential pump blockage. In the event of a water shortage, the device will attempt to rearm itself up to 10 times over a 24-hour period, each attempt lasting approximately 5 seconds. This allows the pump and system to reload if water becomes available again. If water is not found after these attempts, the device will enter a stand-by mode and signal a failure. After 24 hours, it will make a single 5-second rearming attempt, and if water is found, it will reset and repressurize the system. If not, it will return to failure mode and try again after another 24 hours. This intelligent rearming process minimizes downtime and user intervention. The anti-jamming function is always active, even during water shortage failures, to protect the pump from potential damage due to blockages.

Usage Features

The CentriPro MP PLUS is designed for ease of installation and user-friendly operation. It comes factory-fitted with plug-and-play power leads, allowing for direct connection to matching leads on the pump without the need for an electrician. The power lead to the wall socket is also supplied with the pump.

For proper installation, the unit should be secured on a flat, even surface. It is designed to be installed directly onto the pump or between the pump and the first tap. Crucially, the unit must be installed with the arrows on its body pointing in the upward direction to ensure correct functionality. No taps or outlets should be installed between the pump and the unit.

A critical consideration for installation is the static discharge head. If the column of water between the pump and the highest tap exceeds 15m, the unit cannot be installed directly onto the pump. In such cases, the unit must be raised until the column of water between the unit and the highest tap does not exceed 15m, or a 2.2 Bar restarting/cut-in pressure device must be used. It is advisable to connect the unit's outlet to the system using a flexible hose to accommodate minor misalignments and reduce vibration.

The device features LED indicators on its front panel: a green "Power On" LED illuminates when the unit is connected to the electrical supply, and a yellow "On" LED indicates when the pump is in operation. Upon initial connection, the pump will operate for 8-10 seconds to fill the pipes and reach the required pressure, after which the unit is programmed for automatic control.

The MP PLUS is not weatherproof and should not be installed in direct sunlight. This ensures the longevity and reliable operation of the electronic components.

Maintenance Features

Maintenance of the CentriPro MP PLUS primarily involves ensuring proper installation and addressing any troubleshooting issues that may arise. Before starting the unit, it is essential to check the suction and ensure that the pump is primed to prevent dry running, which can damage the pump.

The troubleshooting guide provided in the manual offers solutions for common operational problems. For instance, if the pump does not start, potential causes include the system already being under pressure, a faulty pump capacitor, or a jammed pump. Solutions range from checking for closed taps or high water columns to inspecting the pump capacitor or physically clearing blockages.

If the pump does not stop, it could be due to the device being installed horizontally (it must be vertical), continuous water flow, or system leaks. The guide recommends installing the device vertically, checking for open taps, and inspecting the system for leaks.

Intermittent pump working can be caused by system leaks below the minimum flow, a blocked flow valve, or insufficient pressure generated by the pump. Solutions include checking for leaks, inspecting the device for foreign bodies, and verifying pump compatibility and efficiency. If the pump is discharged or air is present in the system, proper priming of the pump is recommended.

For electrical connections, it is crucial that all wiring is performed by qualified personnel in compliance with local installation standards. The cable used for connection must be a three-wire cable with a compulsory ground, with an outer diameter between 7.5mm and 10.5mm. All screws fastening the panel board and cable stands must be securely tightened to prevent water ingress into the control box, which could damage the electronic circuit. It is important never to remove the electronic board from the control box.

Regular checks for system leaks are a key maintenance practice, as leaks can lead to the pump running unnecessarily or intermittently. The automatic restart function helps manage temporary water shortages, but persistent issues should be investigated. The manual reset function allows users to bypass the automatic rearming process if needed.

The CentriPro MP PLUS is AS4020 Certified, making it suitable for drinking water applications, which implies a design focused on material safety and hygiene. This certification underscores its suitability for domestic and potable water supply systems.
