The Flygt ENM 10 Level Regulator is a simple and effective device designed for level control in various applications, including sewage pumping stations, groundwater, and drainage pumping. It operates as a mechanical switch housed within a plastic casing, freely suspended by its own cable at a desired height.
The core function of the ENM 10 is to detect liquid levels and trigger an action, such as starting or stopping a pump, or activating an alarm device. When the liquid level reaches the regulator, the casing tilts, causing the internal mechanical switch to either close or break a circuit. This action initiates or terminates the associated equipment. For instance, in a typical pumping application, when the pumped media reaches a predetermined high level, the regulator tilts, and the pump starts, draining the basin. As the basin drains and the liquid level drops, the regulator returns to its vertical position, stopping the pump. This process then repeats as the basin refills.
The regulator contains a micro switch with a maximum rating of 250 VAC/10 A. For installations in potentially explosive atmospheres (Ex-applications), intrinsically safe circuits are typically required, and an Ex-safety barrier (e.g., Prod. no. 84 01 07) must be used. The Ex-version of the regulator features a black casing, made conductive by adding carbon to the polypropylene.
The ENM 10 is available in different versions to accommodate various liquid densities. Standard models are supplied with cable lengths of 6, 13, 20, 30, or 50 meters (20, 42, 65, 100, or 167 feet) for liquids with specific densities between 0.95 and 1.10 g/cm³. For the Ex-version, the regulator is exclusively available with a 20-meter (65 ft) Nitrile/PVC rubber cable. The regulator is designed to withstand temperatures up to 60°C (140°F).
The ENM 10 is designed for straightforward installation and operation. Its simple mechanical design means there are no wear parts and it requires no maintenance beyond occasional checks. The smooth casing, made of polypropylene, prevents impurities and deposits from adhering to it. The cable is sheathed with a special PVC or Nitrile/PVC rubber compound, and all plastic components are welded and screwed together, with no adhesives used.
For connection, the level regulators are typically connected through a transformer to a low-tension control circuit to comply with local regulations, even though the device is approved for higher voltages. Xylem recommends connecting the regulator to a low-voltage supply (48 or 24 V) with a protective transformer.
Multiple regulators can be used in an installation: two regulators are commonly employed for starting and stopping a pump, and a third regulator can be added to trigger an alarm at a specific level. All regulators used for these functions can be identical.
When installing, it is crucial to avoid crossing the level regulator cables and to prevent any damage to the regulator itself during the process. In hazardous areas, special rules apply, and all work must be carried out by certified electricians and Xylem-authorized mechanics. Users must be aware of the risks associated with electric current and the chemical/physical characteristics of any gas or vapor present.
The Flygt ENM 10 is designed to be highly durable and virtually maintenance-free due to its hermetic encapsulation. Regular maintenance is minimal, primarily focusing on occasional checks to ensure continuous operation.
It is recommended to periodically clean the ENM 10, especially if fat or grease covers the plastic surface. During cleaning, an ocular inspection of the regulator should be performed to ensure that neither the cable, protective sleeve, nor the plastic casing shows any signs of damage.
A damaged ENM 10 cannot be repaired because of its hermetic encapsulation. If any damage is found, the unit must be replaced with a new one.
For Ex-installations, it is also essential to verify that the Ex-barrier is operating correctly. The LED on the Ex-barrier should change when the switch is toggled, indicating proper functionality.
The product warranty covers faults due to design, materials, or workmanship, provided the product is used under specified conditions, monitoring equipment is correctly connected, and all service and repair work is performed by Xylem-authorized personnel using genuine Xylem parts. The warranty does not cover faults caused by deficient maintenance, improper installation, unauthorized modifications, incorrect repair work, or normal wear and tear. Xylem assumes no liability for bodily injuries, material damages, or economic losses arising from such situations.
