What to do if my Yamaha Outboard Motor engine will not start but the starter operates?
    • H
      hjohnsonAug 5, 2025
If your Yamaha Outboard Motor's engine won't start but the starter is operating, several factors could be at play. First, ensure the fuel tank isn't empty and is filled with clean, fresh fuel. A clogged fuel filter could also be the culprit, so clean or replace it. Make sure the spark plugs aren't fouled or of the wrong type; inspect, clean, or replace them with the recommended type. Also, check that the spark plug caps are correctly fitted and that there are no poor connections or damage to the ignition wiring. Finally, verify that the engine stop switch lanyard is attached.

How to troubleshoot a Yamaha Outboard Motor when the starter will not operate?
    • J
      John Elliott Jr.Aug 19, 2025
If the starter on your Yamaha Outboard Motor won't operate, begin by checking the battery. It might have a weak or low capacity; ensure it's in good condition and of the recommended capacity. Also, inspect the battery connections for looseness or corrosion; tighten the cables and clean the terminals. A blown fuse in the electric start circuit could also be the issue; check for any electric overload, repair it, and replace the fuse with one of the correct amperage. Finally, make sure that the shift lever is in neutral.
