Why is there no sound coming from my Yamaha Receiver?
    • J
      Jennifer MartinezAug 20, 2025
There might be several reasons for the lack of sound from your Yamaha Receiver. Check the following: * Ensure the input or output cables are correctly connected, and replace them if they are defective. * Select the appropriate input source using the INPUT selector on the front panel or the remote control, and also check MULTI CH INPUT. * Choose the correct set of front speakers using SPEAKERS A or B on the front panel or SPEAKERS on the remote. * Make sure the volume isn't turned down or muted by pressing MUTE or VOLUME +/- on the remote. * If playing a DTS encoded source, ensure “INPUT MODE” is set to “AUTO” or “DTS” instead of “ANALOG”.

What to do if my Yamaha Receiver fails to turn on or enters standby mode?
    • T
      Thomas FosterAug 22, 2025
If your Yamaha Receiver isn't turning on or goes into standby mode shortly after being powered on, consider these potential causes: * Ensure the power cable is firmly connected. * Verify the speaker impedance setting is correct for your speakers. * Check all speaker wire connections to ensure they are secure and not touching anything else. * If the unit experienced a strong electrical shock, put it in standby, disconnect the power for 30 seconds, and then reconnect.

Why does the sound on my Yamaha Receiver suddenly go off?
    • J
      Joseph RushAug 25, 2025
If the sound on your Yamaha Receiver suddenly cuts out, it could be due to the activation of the protection circuitry. This might be caused by a short circuit or incorrect speaker impedance. Make sure the speaker impedance setting is correct and that the speaker wires are not touching each other. Then, turn the unit back on.

    • C
      Calvin BlackAug 28, 2025
If you're not getting any sound from the center speaker of your Yamaha Receiver, check if “CENTER SP” in “SET MENU” is set to “NONE”. If so, change it to “SML” or “LRG”. Also, if you've selected a HiFi DSP program (except for “6ch Stereo”), try using a different sound field program.

Why no sound from surround speakers Yamaha HTR-5950?
    • I
      imonroeAug 30, 2025
If you're not hearing sound from the surround speakers on your Yamaha Receiver, check the “SET MENU”. If “SUR. L/R SP” is set to “NONE”, it automatically sets “SUR. B SP” to “NONE” as well. Set “SUR. L/R SP” to either “SML” or “LRG”. Also, if the unit is in “STRAIGHT” mode and playing a monaural source, press STRAIGHT (EFFECT) on the front panel to disable “STRAIGHT” mode.

Why does my Yamaha HTR-5950 Receiver suddenly enter standby mode?
    • L
      lawrence51Sep 3, 2025
If your Yamaha Receiver suddenly goes into standby mode, it's likely due to the internal temperature becoming too high, activating the overheat protection circuitry. Wait about 1 hour for the unit to cool down before turning it back on.

Why is sound only coming from one speaker on my Yamaha HTR-5950 Receiver?
    • A
      Amy Wade MDSep 5, 2025
If you're only hearing sound from one speaker with your Yamaha Receiver, here's what to check: * Ensure the unit is turned on and the source is playing, in case the sleep timer activated standby mode. * Make sure the sound isn't muted by pressing MUTE or VOLUME +/- on the remote. * Verify that all cable connections are correct and replace any defective cables. * Adjust the “SPEAKER LEVEL” settings. * Note that when playing a monaural source with a CINEMA DSP program, the sound may be directed to the center channel.
