Insert a USB FLASH MEMORY to which the
designated fi le “8E54OS_.PGM” is written in
advance to the [TO DEVICE] connector on
the rear side of the MOTIF XS.

Turn on the power of the MOTIF XS.
When the screen as in Fig. 1 appears just
after the power is turned on, simultane-
ously press and hold the [UTILITY] and [UP]
switches on the panel shown in Fig. 2 until
the screen as in Fig. 3 (Firmware update
mode start-up screen) appears.
If the simultaneous pressing of the [UTILITY] and [UP]
switches are too late (3 seconds after appearance of
Fig. 1 screen), the unit will start in standard mode. (In
that case, a screen as in Fig. 4 will appear.)
Press the [UTILITY] and [UP] switches within 3
seconds of the appearance of Fig. 1 screen.

A screen as in Fig. 3 is shown on the LCD
to indicate that fi rmware update mode is se-
lected.
If the Fig. 4 screen appears, the unit is in normal
start-up mode. Turn off the power and repeat from
the procedure 2.

When the fi rmware updater fi le is found, the

Situations for deletion of fl ash ROM will be
shown as follows.
Erase... ?? %

When the deletion is fi nished, writing to the
fl ash ROM will start and the situation will be
shown as follows.
Write … ?? %

When the writing is finished, the following
indication will be shown and verifying check
will start.
