This document describes the YORK Stellar Plus Split-System Heat Pumps, specifically models E*FH018 through E*FH060, which range from 1.5 to 5 nominal tons. These units are designed to provide economical heating and cooling for homes and small businesses.

Function Description

The YORK Stellar Plus heat pump units are the outdoor component of a versatile split system. They are engineered to efficiently heat and cool a space, serving as the primary heat source for a building. In "Add-On" applications, the indoor coil can be integrated into the supply duct of an existing conventional gas, oil, or electric furnace. In such setups, the heat pump handles the primary heating load, with the furnace activating only when the heating demand exceeds the heat pump's capacity.

These units are designed for ground or roof installation due to their compact size. They come pre-charged with enough refrigerant for the outdoor unit, a matched indoor coil, and 15 feet of interconnecting piping. The EFH heat pumps can be custom-matched with one of YORK's two lines of evaporator blower sections, each tailored for a specific function. Electric heaters are also available in various sizes to complement these systems.

Usage Features

The Stellar Plus heat pumps offer several features aimed at enhancing user experience and system reliability.

Quality Coils: The coils are constructed with copper tubes and aluminum fins, ensuring efficient heat transfer.
Coil Protection: To safeguard the coils from damage, a polymer mesh is applied between the coil face and either a PVC-coated steel coil guard or another polymer coil guard.
Durable Finish: The cabinet is made of pre-painted steel. The steel undergoes a pre-treatment process to improve paint adhesion, resist corrosion, and prevent rust creep. Special primer formulas and a glossy earth-tone finish are used to minimize fading when exposed to sunlight, maintaining the unit's aesthetic appeal over time.
Lower Installed Cost: Installation time and costs are reduced due to fully exposed refrigerant connections and a single-panel cover for the electrical controls. The small base dimensions also mean smaller mounting pads or less material is required for mounting, further lowering installation costs.
Compressor: Models ranging from 2 to 5 tons are equipped with scroll compressors. These compressors feature internal protection against high pressure and temperature, achieved through the simultaneous operation of a high-pressure relief valve and a temperature sensor. This system protects the compressor from undesirable operating conditions.
Complete System Control: The units incorporate the unique YorkGuard V microprocessor control system, which provides optimal comfort control and reliable operation. This system continuously monitors the space environment to maintain optimum efficiency. It initiates defrost cycles only when necessary, which helps reduce heating costs and improve reliability. Supplemental heat is activated only below the balance point and only when needed. In the event of improper operating conditions, such as high temperature and high pressure, the YorkGuard V system will shut down the unit to extend its lifespan. Rapid cycling is prevented by an integral anti-recycle timer. Loss of charge protection is provided by a discharge temperature sensor and internal compressor overloads.
Low Operating Sound Level: The top-mounted fan discharges air upwards, away from the structure and landscaping, which helps carry normal operating noise away from living areas. A rigid top panel effectively isolates motor sound, and isolator-mounted compressors, along with the rippled fins of the condenser coil, muffle both fan motor and compressor operating sounds.
U.L. and C.U.L. Listed: The units are approved for outdoor application, ensuring safety and compliance with industry standards.
Certified Performance: The units are certified in accordance with the Unitary Small Equipment certification program, based on ARI Standard 210/240.

Maintenance Features

The YorkGuard V control system includes diagnostics to assist service technicians, minimizing repair time and cost. It also stores important information for use during servicing.

Optional accessories are available to enhance performance and address specific needs:

Start Assist Kit (2SA067*): Provides additional starting torque for the compressor.
Blower Time Delay: This accessory can be installed on the indoor section to increase efficiency by maintaining blower operation for approximately one minute after the cooling thermostat is satisfied.
Hard Start Kits: Provide the necessary starting torque, especially when used with a Thermal Expansion Valve Kit.
Low Temperature Cutout (2LT06700224): Prevents heat pump operation below -10°F ambient temperatures.
Compressor Blanket: Designed to further reduce the normal operating sound of the compressor.
Add-on Control (2AC02700701): Provides an interface for integrating the heat pump system with gas and oil furnaces.
Thermal Expansion Valve Kit (1TV0700 Series TXV kit): Used to improve system performance.
Outdoor Thermostat (2TD06700124): Provides additional staging for supplemental electric heat.
Room Thermostats: A wide selection of matching thermostats is available, offering features like 2H/1C manual change-over electronic non-programmable, 3H/2C non-programmable digital, and 3H/2C auto/manual changeover electronic programmable 7-day thermostats.

The units come with a 5-year limited parts warranty and a 10-year limited compressor warranty, providing long-term assurance for users.
