UNIT LOCATION
TheYCIVchillersaredesignedforoutdoorinstallation.
Whenselectingasiteforinstallation,beguidedbythe
followingrequirements:
1. Installationsitesmaybeeitheronarooforonground
level.(SeeFOUNDATION)
2. Selectaplacehavinganadequatesupplyoffreshair
forthecondensers.Recommendedclearancesforall
unitsareshownontheDIMENSIONSpages.
3. Avoid locations near windows or structures where
normaloperatingsoundsmaybeobjectionable.
4. Thecondenserfansarepropeller-typeandarenot
recommendedforusewithductwork,ltersorother
impedementstoairowinthecondenserairstream.
5. Whenitisdesirabletosurroundtheunit(s),inaddition
towhateveroptionallouverpackageisselected,itis
recommendedthatthescreeningbeabletopassthe
requiredchillerCFMwithoutexceeding0.1"external
staticpressure.
6. Protectionagainstcorrosiveenvironmentsisavailable
byorderingtheunitswitheithercoppernsorcured
epoxy-coatingonthecondensercoils.Epoxy-coated
coilsshouldbeutilizedwithanyunitsbeinginstalledat
theseashore,orwheresaltspraymayhittheunits,or
whereacidrainisprevalent(coppercondensercoils
arenotrecommendedwheretheymaybeexposed
toacidrain).
7. Oninstallationswherewinteroperationisintendedand
snowaccumulationsareexpected,additionalelevation
mustbeprovidedtoinsurenormalcondenserairow.
FOUNDATION
Theunitshouldbemountedonaatandlevelfounda-
tion, ground or roof, capable of supporting the entire
operatingweightoftheequipment.Pleasecontactyour
nearestJohnsonControlsSalesOfceforshippingand
operatingweights.
Roof Locations – Adequatestructuralstrengthtosafely
supporttheentireweightoftheunitandserviceperson-
nelmustbeprovided.Caremustbetakennottodamage
theroofduringinstallation.Iftheroofis“bonded”,consult
buildingcontractororarchitectforspecialinstallationre-
quirements.Roofinstallationsshouldincorporatetheuse
ofspring-typeisolatorstominimizethetransmissionof
vibrationintobuildingstructure.Additionalsupportshould
beprovidedtotheroofatthespring-isolatorlocations.
Ground Locations – Unitsmustbeinstalledonasub-
stantialbasethatwillnotsettleandcausestrainonthe
refrigerantlines,resultinginpossibleleaks.Aone-piece
concreteslab,withfootersextendingbelowthefrostline,
isrecommended.Theslabshouldnotbetiedtothemain
buildingfoundationasoperationalnoisewilltelegraph.
Mountingholes(5/8")areprovidedinthebaserailsfor
boltingtheunittoitsfoundation.SeeDIMENSIONSfor
locationofthemountingholes.
Forgroundinstallations,precautionsshouldbetakento
protecttheunitfromtamperingby,orinjuryto,unauthor-
izedpersons.Fastenersonaccesspanelswillprevent
casual tampering; however, further safety precautions,
suchasunitenclosureoptions,afenced-inenclosure,or
lockingdevicesonthepanelsmaybeadvisable.Check
localauthoritiesforsafetyregulations.
CHILLED LIQUID PIPING
Thechilledliquidpipingsystemshouldbelaidoutsothat
thecirculatingpumpdischargesintothecooler.Theinlet
andoutletcooler-liquidconnectionsaregiveninDIMEN-
SIONS.Handstopvalvesarerecommendedforusein
alllinestofacilitateservicing.Drainconnectionsshould
beprovidedatalllowpointstopermitcompletedrainage
ofthecoolerandsystempiping.
Theevaporatormustbeprotectedbyastrainer,preferably
of40mesh,ttedascloseaspossibletotheliquidinlet
connection,andprovidedwithameansoflocalisolation.
Theevaporatormustnotbeexposedtoushingvelocities
ordebrisreleasedduringushing.Itisrecommendedthat
asuitablysizedbypassandvalvearrangementisinstalled
toallowushingofthepipingsystem.Thebypasscanbe
usedduringmaintenancetoisolatetheheatexchanger
withoutdisruptingowtootherunits.
Pressure-gaugeconnectionsarerecommendedforinstal-
lationintheinletandoutletwaterlines.Gaugesarenot
providedwiththeunitandaretobefurnishedbyothers.
Chilled liquid lines exposed to the weather should be
wrappedwithasupplementalheatercableandinsulated,
orglycolshouldbeaddedtothechilledliquidtoprotect
againstfreezingiflow-ambientperiodsareexpected.
Aowswitchisavailableasanaccessoryonallunits.A
owswitchmustbeinstalledintheleavingwaterpipingof
thecoolerandmustnotbeusedtostartandstoptheunit.
