This document is a user manual for a Zanussi ZDLN1521 dishwasher, providing comprehensive instructions for its installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Function Description
The Zanussi ZDLN1521 is a household dishwasher designed for cleaning dishes and tableware. It operates by spraying water and detergent onto the dishes, followed by rinsing and drying phases. The appliance features a water softener system to manage water hardness, ensuring optimal washing results and preventing limescale buildup. It also includes a rinse aid dispenser to aid in drying and prevent streaks. The dishwasher offers various programmes tailored to different load types and soil levels, including an ECO programme for efficient water and energy consumption, and shorter programmes for lighter loads.
Usage Features
The dishwasher is activated by an on/off button and allows users to select programmes via a programme button. Programme indicators provide visual feedback on the selected programme and its progress. A delay button enables users to postpone the start of a programme.
Programme Selection and User Mode:
The appliance defaults to programme selection mode when activated, indicated by the ECO programme indicator flashing. Users can enter a "user mode" to adjust settings such as the water softener level, activate/deactivate the rinse aid empty notification, enable/disable the acoustic signal for programme completion, and control the AirDry function.
Water Softener:
The water softener removes minerals from the water supply. Its level should be adjusted based on local water hardness to ensure good washing results and prevent damage to the appliance. The manual provides a table to help users determine the correct water softener level based on German, French, and Clarke degrees of hardness, as well as mmol/l and mg/l (ppm) values. The salt refill indicator illuminates when the salt container needs refilling.
Rinse Aid Dispenser:
The rinse aid helps in drying dishes without streaks or stains. The rinse aid indicator turns on when the dispenser is empty. Users can adjust the released quantity of rinse aid or deactivate the empty notification if using multi-tablets that include rinse aid.
AirDry Function:
This feature improves drying results and reduces energy consumption by automatically opening the appliance door during the drying phase, allowing dishes to air dry. The door remains ajar for a set period, which varies depending on the selected programme. A caution is provided not to close the door within 2 minutes of automatic opening to prevent damage. Users can deactivate AirDry if children have access to the appliance, as an open door may pose a danger.
Detergent Usage:
The dishwasher requires specific dishwasher detergents, which can be in powder, gel, or tablet form. The manual advises on appropriate dosage based on the detergent manufacturer's instructions and water hardness, typically 20-25 ml for normal soil. For programmes with a prewash phase, a small quantity of detergent should be placed on the inner part of the appliance door.
Loading Baskets:
Users are advised to load baskets to their full capacity for optimal water and energy efficiency. Items should be arranged to ensure water can reach all surfaces, with hollow items facing downwards and light or plastic items secured in the upper basket. Knives and sharp utensils should be loaded with points down or horizontally.
Starting and Cancelling Programmes:
Programmes are started by selecting the desired programme and closing the door. A delay start can be set for up to 3 hours. Programmes can be cancelled by pressing and holding the on/off button for 3 seconds. The appliance has an "Auto Off" function that deactivates it after a programme is complete or after 5 minutes of inactivity to save energy.
Maintenance Features
Regular maintenance is crucial for the dishwasher's performance and longevity.
Salt Container:
The salt container needs to be refilled with rough salt designed for dishwashers to regenerate the water softener resin. The process involves turning the cap counterclockwise, adding 1 litre of water (first time only), filling with 1 kg of salt, shaking gently, removing excess salt, and closing the cap. A programme should be started immediately after refilling to prevent corrosion.
Rinse Aid Dispenser:
To fill the rinse aid dispenser, press the release button, fill the dispenser up to the "MAX" mark, wipe any spills, and close the lid. The quantity of rinse aid released can be adjusted.
Filters:
The filter system, composed of three parts, should be checked and cleaned regularly. This involves turning the filter counterclockwise, removing the individual filter parts, washing them under running water, and then reassembling and locking them back into position.
Spray Arms:
The lower spray arm can be removed by pulling it upwards and cleaned under running water. A thin pointed tool, like a toothpick, can be used to clear clogged holes. The upper spray arm should not be removed, but its openings can be cleaned with a pointed object if clogged.
Internal and External Cleaning:
The appliance interior should be cleaned with a soft damp cloth, avoiding abrasive products or strong chemicals. The door and rubber gasket should be wiped clean weekly. A dishwasher cleaning product should be used every two months to maintain performance. The exterior can be cleaned with a moist soft cloth and neutral detergents.
Troubleshooting:
The manual includes a comprehensive troubleshooting table that lists common problems, alarm codes (indicated by intermittent flashing of the SSS indicator and acoustic signals), and possible causes and solutions. This covers issues like the appliance not activating, programmes not starting, water filling or draining problems, anti-flood device activation, pump malfunctions, temperature sensor issues, water level detection errors, small leaks, difficulty closing the door, and rattling sounds. It also addresses unsatisfactory washing and drying results, such as wet dishes, unusual foam, rust traces, detergent residues, odours, and limescale deposits, providing guidance on how to resolve these issues.
