5 Troubleshooting
A list of possible error messages generated by the 4s3™ are summarised within this chapter.

5.1 Error Messages
Display Message Error
Er1 The system cannot reach the home position within a dened time
Er2 The system cannot control the heating element correctly
Er3 The sealer cannot complete the sealing compression within a dened time
Er4 The system cannot lower the elevator within a dened time, following sealing
Er5 Elevator motor is overloaded
Er6 Temperature sensor not functional
Er7 Drawer error
Er8 Low handler sensor error during compression
ErA Drawer motor overloaded
ErB Drawer cannot reach the open or closed position
ErC Drawer does not move or the system does not detect the movement
ErD “close drawer sensor” and “open drawer sensor” error, both the sensors are active at the same time
The errors will remain displayed until the problem is solved. To clear the error press the “CLOSE” (DOWN) button.
If any of the above errors persists switch “OFF” the unit and then switch “ON” again.
If within 10 seconds the problem is not solved the heated platen is automatically turned off to avoid sample
damage.
If the problem is solved within 10 seconds the unit will automatically return to “Run Mode”.
5.2 Cleaning the Heating Platen
If the sealing lm is placed upside down on the plate, the sealing lm will become stuck to the heating platen. To
clean it, proceed as follows:
Note: Do not attempt to clean the unit until it has cooled down to near room temperature!
• Set temperature to “OFF” (please refer to section 3.2)
• Allow unit to cool until heating platen is close to ambient
• If drawer is not open, press the “OPERATE” (UP) button to open
• Switch the unit off at back via the I/O switch
• Disconnect the mains power supply
