4.5 Underpressure measurement on filter silencer
A U-pipe manometer can be ordered from ABB Turbocharging for the
low pressure measurement on the filter silencer.
The measurement can be used for the following purposes:
¡ To measure the correction factor for calculating the turbocharger ef-
ficiency during the engine acceptance test.
¡ The use of a filter mat on the filter silencer can cause a loss of pres-
sure. A significant pressure loss indicates an increase of contamina-
tion in the filter material.
4.5.1 U-tube manometer on filter silencer (if present)

A [mm H
2
O] Pressure loss / Pressure difference
With a clean filter silencer (and clean filter mat, if provided), the max-
imum pressure loss (A) is 120mmH
2
O at full load.
When the pressure loss (A) has reached 200mmH
2

u Clean filter silencer.
NOTICE
Reading off pressure loss
The measuring rod on the U-tube manometer can be withdrawn to the
bottom water level so that the pressure differential (A) can be easily
read off.
The U-tube manometer can be read off more easily if slightly coloured
water is poured in.
