4.4 Main components
UniGear 500R switchgear is equipped with a Vmax
removabl vacuum circuit-breaker.
The circuit-breaker is connected in series with a
three-position “off-load” disconnector (ON – OFF –
EARTH). Circuit-breaker and three-position
disconnector are mechanically interlocked.
4.4.1. Vmax circuit-breaker(Figure 32)
The Vmax circuit-breaker, is a vacuum circuit-breaker
with mechanical operating mechanism. It is installed in
the circuit-breaker/cable compartment (Figure 23),
(Figure 24) (zone C) in series with the off load three-
position disconnector. The circuit-breaker is
mechanically interlocked with the three-position
disconnector to prevent dangerous or inadvertent
operation.
The circuit-breaker can be tripped either mechanically
(with push-buttons 1 and 2) or electrically, according
to the interlocking logics.
On request, the circuit-breaker can be equipped with
an electric geared motor for charging the operating
springs. It is always possible to use the lever (5) to
manually charge the operating springs.

4.4.2. Three-position disconnector (Figure 33)
The manually operated “off-load” three-position
disconnector is located in the busbar compartment
and has three positions (Figure 35):
ON: Circuit-breaker connected to the busbar system.
OFF: Circuit-breaker isolated from the busbars and
from earth.
EARTH: Circuit-breaker connected to earth.
These positions, visible on an indicator located on the
front of the switchgear (Figure 92)(D) are shown in
(Figure 35). For operation of the three-position
disconnector see (chapter 7.2).
The IEC version cubicle is fitted with a front
inspection window which allows to verity the position
of the contacts of the threeposition disconnector
(Figure 34).
